This partridge has appeared on these Pasty Cam pages before, but his pal George Beveridge wasn't in the picture with him then. This time, George's wife, Paulette took a picture of their friendly partridge visiting with George, who sat down for a rest in-between wood cutting sessions. I'm not sure if it's unusual for a partridge to become this friendly, but George and Paulette said that this one has been around for about a year and a half now. There was another one prior to this bird, but it met with an untimely end. Before you know it, this little guy started coming around and they once again had a fairly tame critter to visit with. Maybe George is somewhat of a "partridge whisperer", that he attracts them and gains their trust like that.

Maybe this one is an offspring of the other one. If the untimely end of the other one came around the time that this one started showing up, it could be that it's related in some way. Whatever the case may be, that's very cool!

I wonder if the partridge fell out of the pear tree that George obviously just cut down with the chainsaw that his true love gave to him on the first day of Christmas.

Way to go, George, with the proper protection equipment while using the chainsaw. Good for you. I'm surprised that partridge hung around while the chainsaw was running. Maybe he's so friendly because he can't hear???? What a cool pet. Reminds me of all the Disney movies where all the forest animals always flock to the beautiful princess.

A few years back I had a frog in my pond that would let me come close and stroke its soft head with a finger. Frogs arent as smart as birds, though. I've never been able to lure even a chickadee into my hands with a palmfull of seed. You must have something special, George!

Hei Therese, I have a video of some chickadees eating sunflower seeds from my hand. It was SO neat! I stood out there in the cold for about 20 minutes with a handful of seed and they finally came down into my hand. I set my video camera up looking out by the feeder, and with a little patience it worked. :o)

Maybe the bird is part of the DNR's put and take program? They raise partridges and then let them loose as adults in woodlands. Then hunters have a turn. Although I don't see much sport in shooting a bird that is not afraid of humans. We used to ride horses near a state park with the put and take program, and could ride right up to the little things.
