This has really been a year for wind here in the Keweenaw and if you think it's bad when you're at the lower elevations, try heading up high like Kevin Henriksen and Donna MacIntosh happened to do on one of those windy days. When Kevin made it to the top of Brockway Mountain, he had a hard time reading the informational signs there, since they were just about parallel to the ground with the gusts that day. Then Donna experienced similar winds and told me that she was even afraid to go out past the concrete railings for fear of being blown right off the edge. Donna did manage to snap a shot of the color, looking out towards Eagle Harbor and then she spotted a freighter out on Lake Superior, making it's way through some pretty wavy looking water.
NOTE: The winds have pretty much wiped out most of the leaves now, leaving some yellow and burnt orange still hanging on, but for the most part the color is just about done.

WOW! 2 years ago hubby and I were UP on top of Brockway Mtn. and the winds were like that. We had our picture taken, and my hair was just a blowin'. I think we used it as my profile picture for a while. Anyway, the beauty of it all made it more than worthwhile.

With the signs being blown from the south it explains why a downbound freighter is way outside its lane and sheltering near the peninsula. Normally they'd be much farther out.

remember everyone, the lake superior performance rally is this weekend!!! it starts this afternoon.
I'd like to leave here and blow on UP there. With wind like that the 'ol cabin would be vibrating on it's moorings.

Beautiful pictures from atop Brockway-reminds me of my drive up there this past June. We took one of our lower peninsula friennds there and he was so taken in with the view. I remember the days when my father (Gideye and mother)used to take us up to Brockway in the fall to see the beautiful color and to look for freighters out on the big lake.

You should see the incredible aerial photos by Neil Harri. He has this photo plus 175 other aerial pictures of the Keweenaw Peninsula. You can purchase his new DVD called "An Autumn Tour of the Keweenaw Peninsula" from his site. www.neilharriphotos.com. Daryl

Everytime I look at the pictures of the U.P. I get my photo albums out. I love all of the pictures I took. A lot of my favorite ones are the winter shots. Everything looks so peaceful and quiet and calm. :O))

Michael (Mikie), I don't know the situation, and it's none of my business, but I would like to ask for God's blessing on you and may He send you bluer skies and brighter days ahead!:) Hope you can visit the Bluff soon!

YES...that was the 9th...WOW...what a breeze up there and yes..the ore boat was close! I think I remember someone saying one time that they HAVE to stay at least 5 miles away from the shores.
Freighters can come pretty close to the Keweenaw there because the water is very deep just offshore. Even just a couple miles off from Eagle River and Harbour its already 500-700 feet deep in places. I used to fish off there and there is a tremendous dropoff; a near vertical cliff in places, but oh boy was the fishing great!!

Little M- seen the rally many times, I'd like to be U.P. this weekend to watch it again, it's a good time.

Again, nice pics. I heard that some parts of Ontario, Canada are past peak 4 Autumn colours. I'm guessing Keweenaw is at least at peak. Also, I like the pic of the lake freighter, but, I guess I'm old styled, as I like the ones with the pilot house at the bow.
