If you've driven through Lake Linden in the past couple weeks, you probably noticed the large yellow Martineau Morris crane sitting on the sidewalk, in front of the Village Hall. Its presence is there because the building is getting a "facelift", with some new paint up high. Take a closer look at the top photo and you'll see the bucket suspended near the tower. Then the next two photos zoom in to show you the brave gentleman doing the actual painting from that lofty perch. The day these were taken, was a bit windy too, so that basket was doing some swaying when its occupant wasn't holding onto the building tower to steady things. No thanks, I prefer to have both my feet on the ground when I'm wielding a paintbrush. :->

The paint job on the Village Hall steeple isn't the only job recently completed in town. Today's bottom photo was taken looking south on Calumet Street (also known as M-26), where you can see the new road surfacing project is finally complete. For a good portion of the summer it was a "stop and go" situation here in town, while the construction crew readied the highway for this new blacktop, which stretches from Lake Linden, to just before Dollar Bay. It was kind of a pain, especially if you were on your way to or from work, but now that it's done and the roadway is so nice and smooth, it was definitely worth the wait.

Looking at these pictures of Lake Linden reminds me of years and years of first visiting my grandpa and then my mom who both lived in Lake Linden. All the years of walking up and down Calumet Street, going to the park before there was a park and walking around the area which is now the campsite. Taking a walk past the campsite where there was a lot of trees at one time and getting a different view of Torch Lake. Taking a walk around the area which is now the area where people can dock their boats and launch their boats. I even walked in areas which is now fenced off. Going dowm M-26 to Hubbell to visit someone. Lots of memories for me. ;o)))

Hey! I was going to take pictures of that last weekend, but never found the time to go down there other than to drive by. It was very impressive to watch. It is looking very nice!!!! All of the road construction from last summer seems to be finished and everything looked wonderful!!!!! Got to Copper World. Was supposed to get to meet Neil when he came to drop off his DVD's but we never got the call to go back until yesterday when we were on our way home. Darn!!!! I was so disappointed as I really was excited to meet him.

The trees by the park make the last picture. I wondered what they were doing at Village Hall and now I know. Very happy the road work was done, finally and Lake Linden Ave too.

I would love to see the view the painter in the basket saw!

Any bats in that belfry? Seems like there could be a joke in here somewhere considering it's a government building.

Wonders to those people that can work the high up into the sky to do there work. Great work. Also thank you for the Calumet picture. Loved being in Calumet when my daughter attended MI Tech. Miss the area dearly.

Mary says: Actually, Cath, the Calumet Street picture is in downtown Lake Linden, not Calumet, although there was highway work most of the summer in Laurium, on Lake Linden Ave. that was just recently completed too. How's that for confusing? :->

If I had a dollar for each time I was in Lindell's when I was in high school, I'd be rich !!! What wonderful memories of being there with my friends and how nice Bea (Beeya) was to us.

Mary says: Hey Laure, You should see Bea today. She's in her 90's now and still goes out walking and picking wildflowers. She spends the summers here in Lake Linden and goes with one of her kids for the winter somewhere. Remember Angelo too?

The main street looks nice now compared to the way it was on the 4th and with the paint job on city hall, the little town is gettin' all spruced up!

Saw the painting job in progress, looking good. Just got back from 4 and a half weeks of great times on the Keweenaw. Hitched up the Airstream and had a great time, the colors were really great this year. Got lots of great pictures. Now it's time to think about heading south for the winter, I've seen to many Keweenaw winters, I prefer Arizona and/or Florida these days.

Is Lindell's open again?

From what I understand- Lindell's is only open for the summer season and they are serving greek type food now? Also, from what I understand part of the interior was also changed. I understand it is more of a setup that a person would find in a big city. Instead of the waitress giving the order to the cook they now punch it into a computer- type screen and the order goes to where the cook is. I did not go in there after the change. My mom said that is where my dad use to 'court her' on dates. (memories)

Lindell's is NOT open and hasn't been for over a year now (maybe even longer). It's actually for sale.

I just read on a website of some kind that it is for sale. I was going to come back and post it- but someone already did. I have not been up to Lake Linden for a couple of years now.

Just like a lot of people with memories, I use to go in there a lot to have breakfast before I would go for a walk.

Guess we all have memories of Lindell's. It was not open when we were there last summer. Hope someday it opens again. Memories are made of this. The main street looks so nice. Wish I was there !!!!! Theresa

Yes Mary, I do remember Angelo! At one point, I remember he moved to MN, about 30 miles north of Duluth to Cloquet. If you see Bea, tell her I said hello! and wish her an early Happy Birthday (12/28). I made the mistake of wishing her a Merry Christmas one year ( as a kid) -- then she told me her b/d was a few days later. Somehow, I've never forgotten it! :-)

Thanks Mary Wow - looked like Calumet to me. I have great memories of all the areas there. Really miss there. Would love to live any place there.

Just got back last night from a few days in the UP, staying in Lake Linden. The colors were just beautiful this year, especially around the Lake Linden/Trap Rock area. Lake Linden is a very pretty town. I used to work at Lindell's, and I hope they will reopen it. We all have so many happy memories of that place, being with all our friends.

Being a highway buff, I like the M-26 pic through Lake Linden.

I varnished the front of the A-frame of St. Alberts's on the MTU campus one year (early summer of 1968) from scaffolding perched on the roof over the lower entrance. Every time I brushed in one direction the scaffolding swayed opposite just from friction of the brush. Since I was perched on a single end piece above three layers of scaffold it was somewhat upsetting in the beginning. That was before safety harnesses and other safety gear were considered necessary. I didn't move too fast if I remember right. I'm with Janie T., I'd like to see his view.

It also saddens me to see Lindell's closed. So many happy memories of that place. I remember Angelo well, but for some reason, he used to scare me. Don't know why.

Heck, even my mom worked there when she was a teenager! That place goes way back!!!

Got in touch with Neil and he is sending me a DVD. I really wanted to meet him though. Maybe next time. The calendar is beautiful!

Pictues of city hall in Lake Linden being painted bring back a lot of memories to me as I grew up on Front St. which is located right behind city hall. Bea and Angelo also lived on Front St. and I to grew up going to Lindell's as a young child and teenager. There son and daughter were a few years behind me going to LLHHS; but I did know them.
Glad to hear that the road construction is done; should be smooth sailing to all of our fishing spots next June when I will make my yearly trip back to my roots.
Do miss living in Lake Linden but have been gone so long that I now consider myself a troll but in my heart I will always be a Yooper.

Oh my gosh, I remember Angelo! My grandparents lived on G Street and we visited every summer. Lots of great memories of Lindell's!
