Carefree days of summer are past, but Autumn in the Keweenaw still brings out the kid in you. Now who wouldn't like to be the young man in either of Brita Haapala's first two shots? Just strolling down a colored trail of leaves on a quiet fall day or bursting into a colorful field, with freshly mowed trails to race on. Two completely different approaches to the beauty of the changing seasons, but both evoke the feelings of happiness and pure joy! There's another emotion that comes into play when you tour here UP North in this colorful season and Brita captured that in her last photo here today... beautiful calm

AUTUMN..
When the leaves turn
from green.....
.....to gold.....
.....to WORK!

That first photo looks exactly like the road that led to a cabin we went to years ago near Shingleton when I was a kid...good memories.

It was a beautiful log cabin on a lake called Sand Lake, near Clear Lake off 94. There was a sign at the foot of the driveway that said Brenda Lodge, but I think the name was changed to Hiawatha Lodge in later years.

Not work yet...let the leaves lay...that's Mother Nature putting a blanket on for a long winter's nap!

October's the month
When the smallest breeze
Gives us a shower
Of autumn leaves.

Autumn leaves float quietly down
And form a carpet on the ground.
But when those leaves are stepped upon,
Listen for the crackling sound.

October leaves are lovely
They rustle when I run
Sometimes I make a heap
And jump in them for fun.

Bonfires and pumpkins,
Leaves sailing down -
October is red
And golden and brown.

Down, down!
Yellow and brown
The leaves are falling
Over the town.

Love the poem, love the fall, love the colors, and
love the smell of the night air in the fall.

I knew those were Britta's pictures as soon as I saw them. Her kids are going to have such wonderful memories.

From the looks of the Cams today, I'd say the leaves peaked just before the rains. But I'm sure the rains were as welcome to you as they were to us in GA.
