With the wind in your face and waves crashing at your side, a walk along the shores of Lake Superior is crisp and refreshing. That's Paco and his walking companion who seem to be enjoying themselves. Of course Joyce Tormala wasn't satisfied with the scene, until she captured its magnificence, complete with the leaves colored against the darkening skies. Then there are the little details that Joyce always manages to encompass in her photography, like the reflections of the beach walker and the trees; the paw prints in the moistened sand; the blinding sun, as it bounces off the rolling waves. These photos illustrate the truth of the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words."

Great pictures and I knew it had to be Paco immediately.

Tom, I graduated with a Glenn Dessellier in 1970. Any relation?

Silver shoreline...priceless.

That picture would be perfect if that was my dog Sam and I in it. I sure miss the UP. Great shots Joyce. Thanks for sharing.

Back in my late teens we stayed at Cedar Bay and I use to run up and down the beach with a cousins dog. He was a huge Alaskan Huskie named Chief. I took off running down the beach and Chief tackled me and almost took off my jacket. It was fun. Then the next day there was one heck of a storm came thrugh and I fell asleep on the couch listening to the waves come in and out. Woke up and looked outside and there was a dropoff on the beach at least (3) feet. It was pretty close to the front door, too. ;0)

This is a good time for the dogs, no bugs. Poor Flash was getting eaten alive on the beach by the biting flies so we had to keep her off in July when she was here with my daughter.

Great photos, Joyce! Thank you!

There's nothing like a walk on the shore of Superior in October. The colors, the wonderful, clean smell of the water, and especially the clarity and brilliance of the light.

Dunerat you hit that on the spot! The sights, smells and sounds of this time of the year beats out even summer on The Lake!!! I remember visiting my folks in White Pine in the fall, with the Porkies in the background. MMMMmmm wonder if there's any homes in White Pine that are avaliable these days. :)

I spent a lot of time walking/running the LS beaches near where I grew up. Almost 50 years later in a booth at the Eagle Harbor Art Fair while looking at the wares I told my wife," I know those rocks!" Sure enough. When the owner of the booth showed back up we found out those rocks came from the same place I did. If you don't go back to your roots your roots'll come looking for you.

Love those first brisk days of autumn! It's cozy-time. Fireplace, a good book, a cup of cocoa. Walks through the woods, bundling up in warm sweaters, watching the leaves change almost before your eyes. The best time of year!

I am getting ready to put a ham bone in the crockpot and set it on low all night long. I am going to make a boiled dinner. YUM!! YUM!! ;O)

Is that Agate Beach in Toivola? Sure looks like it to me! Wish I was there with my dogs...
