Going against everything we've been taught about growing flowers and plants, the Lake Superior rocky shoreline defies the norm and sprouts beauty amidst the rock. Thanks to Lynn Virtanen, we get an up-close look at what's growing on out there, including some hardy daisies. The one that amazes me though, is the second photo with the cedar trunk growing up between the rocks and wrapping itself right around the top,to find whatever it needs to survive on these rugged shores. Many folks say the Keweenaw residents have SISU, but it looks like the plant life does, too!

Pretty amazing to see where mother nature can grow things. And to think I can't even get my garden to grow in the back yard with good dirt and fertilizer sometimes. Just goes to show you can't improve on mother nature!

Great photos...like walking the shoreline.

Fine looking Copper Harbour Conglomerate in those pictures there. If the plants/trees can survive the daily assault of weather from Lake Superior, there are plenty of nutrients to be had in those rocks......

Nice pictures from an adventure. I like the shoreline.

If there are plenty of nutrients to be had in those rocks...are they the same kind/type as we The Human Race also need to survive? K 9's too? If so I have a Idea ! Since rocks are pictured today, I belive it be okay for The Man with rocks in is head to answer here........ And that Man is Pasty"s very own Main Man..and ours too.....Capt. Paul (Eclogite) ..Applaud. Clap Clap Applaud.. Let us show we appreciate him today along with me, because I really do. Give him a Big Head for more rocks..Roast him today.

One of my friends from Negaunee calls himself the "Rock Doc". Yup, he's a geologist, too.

The Dr. says, "There can be only one!!!"

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, September 8, 2008 - 10:55 pm:

And as far as nutrients, there are many of the same minerals we need as the plants; things like calcium, copper, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, strontium, etc.... and yes, even arsenic!! However, in order to get those nutrients, the conglomerate first has to be broken down into smaller grains and soils. Enter the power of Lake Superior and its relentless erosion of the conglomerate and it provides plants and trees with a constant supply food and fertilizer.

I guess my idea will be to much to handle.I had to rush to the Emergency Room yesterday afternoon. My blood got to thin. That is one good thing potassium is used for.
