When Bruce Watters snapped today's picture, he sure was amongst some tall pines. They're towering over the 4 wheeler up ahead of him. It's not something we always stop to think about, but trees that are this tall in the forest, have been here for quite some time, growing straight up, reaching for the clouds it seems. Looks like it would be a great trail for 4 wheeling, mountain biking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling or even just a regular old walk in the woods. Anyone want to join me?

Those are gorgeous, tall trees! Thank you, Bruce Watters & Mary for today's beautiful picture!
It's incredible that it is already September! This summer has been so cool, that it was more like an extended spring than a summer! Today's the first day of school, at least for most K-12 schools here in Michigan, as well as for my younger two sons. I love fall and fall baked goods, but somehow, I'm not ready yet for fall this year. (I know, technically it's not fall yet, but I grew up hearing that summer is from Memorial Day to Labor Day, LOL.) You're up early this morning, Uncle Chuck. Good Morning!

Great photo! The weather looks the same as it was on Saturday when I drove up to Copper Harbor on the Wing. Mid-70's and not a cloud in the sky."The Keweenaw was shining".
It's days like that, that get me through the Winter.

This picture was taken on the snowmobile trail in the northeast corner of Dickinson County. It was a perfect day for a ride through beautiful country!

Was so sorry to see the news about the fire in Ontonagon. Thankful no one was killed but so sorry to see this wonderful town take another tough hit. Let's keep everyone there in our prayers.

ATVs or ORVs (or whatever they are called) are fun and even useful. I just wish that people would ride only on approved paths and not on private property. This has been a problem for some who wish to preserve wildflowers, etc. And these vehicles can leave deep ruts in muddy land that can trip other when they walk through the high grass in summer. Just a thought...

They have destroyed beyond repair part od the Cedar River XC ski trail between Escanaba and Menominee. If you're too lazy to walk stay out of the woods.

Going off the trails and onto private property can cause it's share of damage, there's no doubt about it. We sure have had our share from folks walking, XC skiing or bicycling past our home tossing litter, people climbing over our fences without our permission to pet our horses, dogs running and doing their business in our yard as their owners acknowledge it but could careless about cleaning it up. The funny thing about these folks is when we ask them to please ask for our permission to pet our horses, they refer to us as the rude ones!

There is a place for ATV's I guess. Farmers have good use of them maybe. But personally I put them in the same class as those #@&^%$ jet skis! There is that certain element of idiots that ruin it for the decent folks, like anything else...smokers etc. One jet ski fool ruined it for us years ago. Chased away a family of loons we watched each evening when we had a rental cottage way up in northern Wisconsin.

Wether it is an ATV, snowmobile, jet ski, etc. these machines sit still till the operator turns the key on and decides in what manner, safe or destructive, it will be ridden. Other than a jet ski, never been on one, yet, I have enjoyed the leisure and enjoyable trail riding on these machines. On our farm our ATV is very handy to have with chores as well as fun.

One of my favorite things to do is walk in the woods. In June I got a weimaraner and he has become my faithful walking companion. We go every day for a good hour on the ski trails in Hancock. That walk in the woods is "my time".....no phones......no TV.....no work......no schedule.....just Chester and I and the beautiful scenery of the trails. I love it!
