Good morning! What a spectacular slide show this morning. Thank you!

I hope you all have a great weekend. Getting read to go to the Swapper's Meet to see what kind of j--k, I mean treasures, I can find.

By Gary Hookway (Ghookway) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 08:46 am:

Thank you very much....lol!

Uncle Chuck, to anwer your question yesterday...my new dog is a bluetick coonhound named "Puck" (Go Redwings!). He's less than a year old, skinny and skittish. I found him at the animal shelter in Kalamazoo, so far seems to be a real nice dog. he's found a great home....imo,lolo.

Gary, 2 days in a row! You should pick up a few more lottery tickets. Good luck. I think your dog got lucky too with his new home.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 10:08 am:

Gary- Great name "Puck", hope you have many happy years together.

By Gary Hookway (Ghookway) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 10:33 am:

Thank you very much for the kind thoughts, they are very appreciated. His predecessor was also a bluetick from the same shelter, Judd passed away 2 weeks ago today from kidney failure although he was only 3 yrs. old. He too was a very good and handsome dog.

Again, thank you all.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 10:48 am:

Gary, congrats and I'm so proud of you for adopting your dog. You saved a life.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 12:08 pm:

Gary, sorry about Judd. It's hard to lose such a young animal. We lost our dog when she was only 5. I can't remember what was wrong with her, but she just quit eating and got weaker and weaker. We finally had her put to sleep to end her suffering. That was so hard. We now have a lab/shepherd combination. Best dog I've ever seen. We rescued her also. Don't know why anybody would have ever given her up.

Bluetick hound, eh? Reminds me of the Blake Shelton song "Ol Red". Good luck with him. My hubby would love his name as he's a huge Red Wings fan (so am I, I just don't watch every game).

By Gary Hookway (Ghookway) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 12:59 pm:

He seems to be a good one, not for people with sensitive hearing....coonhounds love to "sing". We love him.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 01:41 pm:

What are you saying Deb, "Ol' Red" itchin to have a little fun??

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 01:47 pm:

Does anyone of a certain age remember the (Burl Ives?) song about putting down "Old Shep"? Bawled my eyes out every time I heard that as a kid. Hated and loved it. So wouldn't you know an elderly friend several years ago gave me a copy of it but I just couldn't listen to it. Thank you dear friend Marie (who's now gone herself). Had neighbors with hounds who rarely ran them. But we had to hear their mournful barking for years. Glad I left that neighborhood!

By Gary Hookway (Ghookway) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 01:54 pm:

Deb, just listened to that song....lol,love it , thanks !

By Richard Wieber (Dickingrayling) on Saturday, August 16, 2008 - 03:05 pm:

If everyone would get their new pets from an animal shelter we could put those "puppy mills" out of business. Only people needing special traits in a dog should go to a quality breeder.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, August 17, 2008 - 09:25 am:

I remember the song, Kay. It was a good one and very sentimental. Didn't know it was done by Burl Ives though.

Glad you listened to the song, Gary. And yep, he's probably itchin' to have a little fun. So get my lantern and get my gun.............

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, August 17, 2008 - 08:03 pm:

I thought that Old Shep was by Walter Brennen.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, August 17, 2008 - 08:55 pm:

That's what we thought too Mikie. But we weren't sure. I was just pretty sure that it wasn't done by Burl Ives.
