Public statement regarding "fiber outages" in the U.P.
Yesterday the Western U.P. experienced a widespread outage of communications services - including 911, cell phones, voicemail, and Internet services. This was caused by an accidental break in AT&T's fiber resources at Champion, Michigan

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 08:52 am:

Happy Birthday, Uncle Chuck! Oh, to be a "young" 50 again. sighhhh :] Read somewhere on the internet the other day, that 60 is the 'new' 40...so I guess that makes me 50 again! Figure that one out. lol

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 08:55 am:

Age is only a number. Happy B-Day Chuck! Life really starts at 52 tho! LOL!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 09:02 am:

Happy Birthday Uncle Chuck! Remember when 50 sounded more like fossilized than actual age? Now you're all growed up like the rest of us! Lucky you........
Mr. Deb

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 12:31 pm:

That's funny, Shirley! As I read the first few posts, the song "Feel Like A Number" was playing in my head and then you mentioned it!

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 03:58 pm:

(Grumble) I guess this makes me older then most of you youngsters here! (?) ---Cheez! Oh well --
"I get by with a little help from my friends!"

BTW Mr.& Mrs. Deb you sure don't look your ages!

Happy Birthday to all that had their birthdays lately! This goes for Barby down in Tenn. Dave H.'s other half!

By Snowman (Snowman) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 04:43 pm:

Hey Russ, you think you're old?

I've sure gotten old. I've had 2 By-pass surgeries. A hip replacement, new knees. Fought prostate cancer, and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation, hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 58. Have lost all my friends.

But.....Thank God, I still have my driver's license!

By RCW (Rcw) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 04:59 pm:

Snowman I know how you feel, the Golden Year's Eh.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 05:37 pm:

WOW Snowman! If you are serious all I can say is that I've had/have most of what you list since a young guy! Anyone who knows me knows this is true! I'm sure I need a bypass and a hip replacement etc now, but I won't anymore. Minimal health insurance so forget it. Medical profession is done playing with me! I Don't take any medications except vitamins, aspirin, Tylenol. (probably a couple I should be taking) Never smoked, rarely have a beer or glass of wine!

But---Still have my auto mechanics certification and my driver license and did drive us all the way up & back to the Keweenaw in a 26 year old car, took scads of beautiful pics, and still enjoy, bird watching, ship watching and girl watching!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 05:38 pm:

Happy Birthday, Uncle Chuck! I hope you have a great one, for the big 5-0! :-)

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 05:40 pm:

By Snowman (Snowman) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 06:56 pm:

RCW, can you wait while I try to find my birth certificate?

By the way, sure hope Uncle Chuck is bald otherwise his hair is gonna catch on fire while he blows out his birthday cake candles.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 06:58 pm:

Shirley, call 911!

By RCW (Rcw) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 07:51 pm:

Hey, times running short Snowman.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 10:25 pm:

Tell 'em Snowman, the age is relative to the severity of the aches and pains that particular day.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 - 10:49 pm:

WOW! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES! PASTY CAMMERS ARE SPECIAL PEOPLE, THANKS AGAIN, I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!

By Crystal Brabbs (Moosesarecool) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 02:26 am:

Happy B-day Chuck!

By Crystal Brabbs (Moosesarecool) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 02:38 am:

you all who live in copper harbor or semi close are really lucky. I have lived up there being campground host for almost 2 months and recently came home. Boy, am i homesick for copper harbor. There is no other place id like to be right now than that beatiful place. I met some of the nicest people on earth(even been offered adoption)and i would kill to see them again. Not till next year, though. Be thankful every day if you live semi close(calumet, laurium, even houghton)because its such a wonderful place. Marquette isnt bad, but it is deffinately not the Copper Country. I miss it so much. Beautiful pictures but they make me more lonesome for the Copper Country.

By Theresa R. Brunk (Trb0013) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 08:59 am:

Does any one remember the character Roseanna Danna from 'its the SATURDAY NIGHT Show". Played by Gilda Radner? Her take on being asked how do you feel is priceless, it has even been made into a greeting card.

I'm Depressed
I gained weight
my face broke out
I'm Constipated
my gums are bleeding
my feet are swollen
my sinuses are clogged
I got heartburn
I'm cranky.. and I got gas!

I hope this makes it passed the censors :)

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 09:28 am:

Crystal- I'd give my left arm to live in Marquette, you should try the Detroit area!

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 11:32 am:

Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck):
"… you should try the Detroit area!"

As one who was "born & brung up" there, I can say: "Detroit is a great place to be from … far from!"

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 01:17 pm:

Mr. Nash I must take you to task about your statement about Detroit. Having lived in a burb for most of my life, I must come to Detroits defense. Unlike that ****hole of heat and absense of water where you reside we have several seasons. Where you have rattlers and scorpians we have the mayor of Detroit as our major pest. Sure we may have a huge population of rats, but I am sure the antelope and deer in Arizona get to be a pest also. We have several Great Lakes within short driving range. While all you have is sand. We also don't have the problems of smog like you do in the west. We can't afford to drive our cars any more with the price of gas here. We also don't have all the high mountains that you do. I imagine there are problems with rocks rolling off of them onto the cities. In the winter we don't have much snow, but it sure does get cold. Instead of like where you are, warm during the winter. Yes my dear Frank you should be ashamed of yourself for being critical of this Eden on the river.

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 08:28 pm:

Michael Du Long (Mikie):

"Shirley, you jest!"

"absense (sic) of water"?
Not here, we gots more swimmin' holes, "ceement ponds", golf courses, and registered watercraft than Detroit!

"rattlers and scorpians (sic)"?
The only "rattlers" I've ever seen in Arizona are these — and the only scorpions I've ever seen in AZ were in the critter house at the Phoenix Zoo! Come to think of it, dey got some snattlerakes dere, too!

"all you have is sand."
Sand? Now where would I find some sand...
Hmmm, oh yes, I remember seeing some sand once, on the way to San Diego, at the Algodones Dunes, near Glamis, California

"this Eden on the river"
Oh yes, and like the original "Eden", I see you have a snake there too. (Oh that's right, you did mention his honor da mayor!)

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 09:38 pm:

But Frank, ours has more poison then your snakes. I am only twelve hours and $150 from the Copper Country. Beat that. Been out on Woodward all night. In seventh heaven. Precious tells me if I can clean the garage out then I can get an old car to play with. She knows I will never give up my shop for an old car. Capt. Paul you would really enjoy yourself. The Cruise started Monday and it is huge this year. Suposed to only be on Sat. but it has extended itself to a whole week. Just love hearing the roar of the big engines and the squeeling tires. And the exaust is ambrosia.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Thursday, August 14, 2008 - 11:34 pm:

FR & Mikie- You guys are crackin me up, Mikie I'll be at the cruise tomorrow.

"… more poison …"

I certainly can't argue with that!

Oh darn, I see my previous message lost its Chessie cat smile when I edited it! (See below.)

Pytavey, I note that the great Dream Cruise is held entirely outside the beautimus City of Deetroit, Hmmm, is there a message in that?

Chessie

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, August 15, 2008 - 12:05 pm:

Yes you are right the Dream Cruise is entirely in the northern burbs. Spent many happy days riding up and down the strip trying to pick up girls. Mainly in my buddies 1946 Hudson painted fire plug red. Done with a paint brush. Miss the youth and the good times. Uncle Chuck where will you be watching the cruise from? Tonight is the Berkley parade. Only vintage or hopped up cars. It is on Twelve Mile from Woodward to Greenfield.
