There have been a lot of sunsets over the years on the Pasty Cam at the end of each month. In 1999 on the last day of August, this was the first sunset to appear "In Memory" of friends and family who had passed on.
This month the list includes a dear aunt of mine who had a positive influence on every life she touched. You are welcome to add to the names:
Sidney "Sid" Collins Mildred Hopper Ron Palosaari Edward "Jack Harney" Stimac Donald Eric "Des" Stoneson
Our regular featured Shoebox Memory will return next Sunday. Have a wonderful holiday and a good week :o)

Frank Plautz was an educator and after his retirement he worked at Harters. He leaves behind his beloved cat Slimmers. He loved his cats and he loved his family with open arms. Frank is already missed by his family and his many friends. He made povitica, strudel, picked thimbleberries and made jam out of them. Many people were the beneficiaries of these goodies, and trips to the UP were always noted for a cup of coffee and something from Frank's larder. He was for the family, a "national treasure" and for some in Calumet an "institution".
I only got to know Frank through a few visits to UP but each visit was memorable.
We are grieving for my daughter's sister-in-law, Linda Bishop, who was hospitalized on my daughter's wedding anniversary and died on my daughter's birthday two days later, August 23, 2008. My grandbaby will grow up not being able to know "favorite Aunt Linda"

Hei Smitty and Slovenechild, Frank Plautz was my driver's training teacher back in '57 at the $Bay HS. What a nice gentle guy, but strict when he had to be. He taught other classes, too. I really liked him.

By Linda (Leothelionlinda) on Monday, September 1, 2008 - 09:06 am:
Uncle Frank (Plautz) was known for his wine making especially elderberry and something the family called 'Bosak' (sp). He always made sure there was plenty at the camp in Bete Gris. He was in the Navy in WWII and received his masters degree from U of M. He taught school in every setting from a one-room school house to Suomi College in Hancock. He had a variety of second jobs including taxi driver, drivers ed teacher, bus route driver and working at the local Harters Party Store in Calumet (he considered that as part of his "social life"). His family newsletters were eloquently written and sounded 'just like Frank' - treasured memories.
By Mark J Plautz (Yooperman) on Monday, September 1, 2008 - 12:07 pm:
My heart is breaking that this era of the Plautz Family has come to an end, but I am confident that all my family members will help to carry on the Plautz family traditions. The torch of the legacy of what it was to be a Plautz, especially in the summers with Uncle Frank and in the old days with Old Uncle as well, still burns in me and will continue as long as I have those years inside me. Farewell Unc! Bon Voyage! Buen Viaje! And save a seat at the pova table for that nephew of yours named Marcus Surrealist! I love you!

Would also like to include my friend Joy who recently lost her daughter Laura to cancer on July 27th. She found her 46 years after her adoption.
