These photos remind me of Alfred Hitchcock's, The Birds, only today's feathered friends are all seagulls, which are known to be pests, but I don't think they attack. On the Portage Lower Entry breakwall, Brita Haapala snapped her shutter just in time to catch some of the seagulls taking off in flight, while others sat waiting to see what would happen should she decide to come closer.
Then, thanks to Frederic W. Koski, we get a glimpse of the beauty of a seagull in flight. I know, some of you are thinking, "beauty"? A seagull? But you have to admit, if you set aside how pesty they can be at a picnic once someone starts feeding them, they still do make a great silhouette when they're gliding in flight.
But this last photo from Tim Bertsos, just plain makes me chuckle. Sitting there on the sign that's warning people not to feed them, is this bird's perfect way to show how defiant and persistent these scavengers can be. I wonder if Tim threw him something to snack on after he took the photo? :->

"Good morning", I recall waiting for the car ferry. We would pass the time feeding the Seagulls. We woukd enjoy getting out of the car after a long ride. Memories of our youth.

Can also remember feeding the gulls with plain crackers as we sailed across Lake Superior etc....always wondered how they could follow for that distance..Had to watch out on deck not to get "bombed" as one went about the ship from forward to aft........

They used to swarm the Boblo boat too I remember. It is hard to think of flying rats as pretty but they have a nice color to them.

BEAUTIFUL shots!!! And I love the view of two different temperaments of the waters at White City. Calm waters on the left, wilder on the right! LOVE that angle of Superior!
The gull in flight is glorious!
And "Don't feed me" is way too cool!!!
Awesome pictures today!
And as usual...thank you Mary for the fabulous work on this site! It's appreciated!
Happy Labor Day Weekend folks! Be Safe!

Greetings:
Two items.
(1) Isn't that the breakwater that is accessible from the Jacobsville side of the Portage entry?
(2) The photo of the breakwater looks reversed (L-R) horizontally. Is it?
No, it's not reversed. The water was totally still on the big lake side and rough and wavy on the canal side. It was beautiful out there that day.

Where ever I see Seagulls,I call out Gulla Gulla Gulla to see if any of them are Yoopers either visiting or moved away like me.

David! Don't tell me you're secretly craving "Gulla" mojakka? (Ewww!)
I haven't heard of that variant, not even here: Mojakka.com
That seagull on the "don't feed the seagulls" sign doesn't look like he's missed any meals or handouts.

OH my gosh that is a plump seagull on the "do not feed" sign. He is totally mocking the sign.

You can see by the water and the birds that the wind is from the south. Yes, we called 'em flying rats, too.

As long as it doesn't say not to feed the flatlanders... :)
