Doug Smith captured one of those "frameable" shots you sometimes get when everything is just right and your camera is handy. He was recently here in the U.P. for a family reunion when he snapped this early moonlight in the pines over Bete Grise. With the kids (and Grandkids) heading off to school shortly, this photo is the perfect way to calm your frazzled nerves from the hustle and bustle of getting them ready. One of those "Superior, take me away" moments.

Before I went to the larger picture, I thought it was a lighthouse on the right.....nice shot.

I've driven past Bete Gris on the Gay-Lac La Belle road, but haven't really had a chance to explore and investigate. I intend to spend more time that way on my next trip to Copper Harbor.
While I'm not an army, I do tend to march on my stomach...is there good eatin' in Bete Gris? :) I'm ok with a pasty or some lake trout...heaven on a plate!

BJ, I thought it was a lighthouse too. What a great shot.

I too thought it was a light house. I love the water but ours are rivers and seas of corn fields.

Great photo! It has becom my new desktop wallpaper - until the next great photo on Pasty Cam replaces it again.

Beautiful picture! I also thought there was a lighthouse....I also "see" a giraffe to the right.

Good eye with the giraffe. I looked a 2nd time, and there it was! Great picture. It will at some point become my background too. Just not right now as the Big Mac with a freighter traveling under it is my background of choice. It's awesome!
By Kay (Loonz) on Friday, August 29, 2008 - 09:14 am:
I definitely see the giraffe...I do believe they are native to that area, aren't they?

What about 'Nessie' out in the water? Looks like her ridged back is peeking out of the "lake".
Wonderfully serene view by the way.

I love the way he caught the water poised in a swell on the shoreline. Gorgeous.

I'll be back 'home' in 4 weeks. Sigh...

Was such a gorgeous evening that night and when I saw that moon coming up, I just had to get a picture of it before I lost the setting. I didn't have time to get my tripod, so i set my camera on the rocks on the shore and added a few under my camera to make it level. Was a bit lower than i thought it should be, but I'm really happy with how it came out. Thanks and I'm glad everyone is enjoying it ;0)

That is a gorgeous shot!!! Ain't it a rush to see your own work out there? :D

On the home page, I,too, thought it was a lighthouse. Then in the big pic I could see the giraffe. :o) It really is a nice pic with much feeling. Great shot, Doug!

Where is this 'beach', with all the flat stones? I remember a sand beach across the channel from the lighthouse. Where are we?

Taken out by Montgomery Point.... At least I think that's where it's at. Family "camps" out that way where we've spent many vacations exploring, but not as often as I'd like to more recently :0(
