Whew! The Pasty Cam update was done over dial-up this morning, as lightning knocked out the Eagle Harbor broadband relay last night.

Early Bird Q: Today's Pasty.NET spotlight sponsor is Vocational Strategies, Inc. How long has VSI been providing training for adults with disabilities?

The builing in the Fayette State Park photo looks like an old fort.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 08:05 am:

The Jacobsville lighthouse picture looks like it was taken in the fall rather than summer. Beautiful though.

Good morning everybody!

The State park at Fayette commerates the first pig iron smelter in the UP. Ore from the Marquette range was smelted with local area Fayette limestone, using local timber as fuel.

Site artifacts have been intensively investigated by the Industrial Archaeology department of MTU in cooperation with the Park Service.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 08:57 am:

Fayette is soooooo beautiful. Can you just imagine the first time someone paddled their canoe into that beautiful cove...they must have known right then that this is where they would stay. It is breathtaking.

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 10:38 am:

It's amazing how low people can Go...

Ernie has done nothing but good for the kids of the community, whoever did this remember one thing, Ernie will forgive you and move on, but you have to live with it.

============

A break-in at Ernie's Bike Shop in Hubbell was discovered Monday morning. A thief broke through the door and entered the store, taking the cash register. The amount stolen is not available at this time, said Sgt. Chuck Cadwell of the Houghton County Sheriff's Department. The owner, Ernie Poisson, is known for fixing up bicycles and giving them to children who could otherwise not afford them.

Bob, There is something wrong with that. Some people.

By Bob Gilreath (Bobg) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 11:06 am:

Cindy, you mean like this:

http://gallery.pasty.com/displayimage.php?album=619&pos=24

if you look in that album there is a bout 6 shots of Fayette

Mary says: Stay tuned to the Pasty Cam for tomorrow, as coincidentally enough, the featured photos are going to be from Fayette State Park. See, history does repeat itself! ;->

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 11:38 am:

Sounds to me like a you have a bunch of bored kids in the Keweenaw these days..... I wonder if the Ernie's break-in is connected to the rash of vehicles around Calumet/Laurium that have been going swimming lately???

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 11:52 am:

I have been locking my car at night lately with all that going on. Heard a bunch of screaming and yelling around 2 last night but I am 2 doors from a bar so blew it off as the late crowd which is probably all it was.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 12:02 pm:

Yes, Bobg...exactly like that, except without cell phones and life jackets. Isn't that beautiful??!! They must have thought they were in Hog Heaven living there back in the heyday of Fayette.

By Smfwlk (Trollperson) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 12:12 pm:

Bobg: thanks for the link to those great Fayette pics! Also, ditto to what you said about the break-in at Ernie's!

By Lowell La Fave Little Beaver (Lowell) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 01:38 pm:

I can remember seeing Fayette Building etc. before that ever was a State Park or else at the time we were there they hadn't done anything with it. My Step-Dad lived on the Garden Peninsula at one time and he took My Mom and my Brother and I down there one time aand showed us around. All there was there were the remains of the old buildings then.

Don't know what happened but it sent the previous message twice instesd of the one I intended to send.
They said that when they lived down there they had a set of ramps out over the cliffs and on the 4th they would take these old cars and get them running and then drive them off the ramp into the water below.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 01:48 pm:

Oh, dear, I hope there's not a pile of old cars in the water there. That would spoil the natural beauty.

Bob (Gilreath) Thank you for the info on Ernie's Station. Hard to beleive any one is sooo low. I grew up just up the street from there. We were home this summer and meant to stop and see Ernie but did not. Sorry now that we didn't. Hope they get these kids. Theresa

By Mr. Bill (Mrbill) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 08:38 pm:

Check the DMG, two more B+E's locally. Don't think we stock many 20 speed, magnesium framed, $20,000 high end mountain bikes locally, so who but kids would steal bikes? Hello parents?

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 08:46 pm:

Heading UP tomorrow. All packed up (nearly ) and ready to go.
