A few weeks back the Pasty Cam featured a little fawn that had been rescued from the middle of a Keweenaw road and it certainly caused quite a stir, even to the point of the DNR tracking down the folks involved. It's nice that so many folks are concerned with the welfare of the wildlife and making sure they are cared for properly.

Today we have several photos of fawns once more, but there's no need for worry or concern over them, since the pictures were snapped and the fawns were left where they were, since they weren't in danger of being run over in the road. E. Neil Harri brings us our first shot of a fawn he spotted lying in the grass as he drove by. Good thing he had his camera by his side. The second fawn was captured (digitally) by Marlin Wenberg, along the Cliff Drive in the Keweenaw. He figures this youngster was patiently waiting for instructions from Mom as to what it should do next. The last photo comes from Bill Haller, who said he found these tiny little hoof imprints where their new home is being built. A worker there has seen a doe and twin fawns within 50 feet of the house. Bill adds that judging from the size of the hoof prints and the closeness of the two front feet, we can only imagine how small these two little guys are.

This is a good time to remind folks that if you come across a young fawn like these, that it's best to leave them alone and not go near them (unless of course they're in the middle of the road). The doe is probably not too far away and will normally come back to get them. If you're observing one for a long time and you think the Mother is not coming back, then a call to the DNR is the next step, but you have to make sure the animal is truly abandoned first. The DNR will come and pick the fawn (or any wild animal) up and transport it to a trained rehabilitator. There are quite a few of them throughout the state and a list of them by County, can be found on the Michigan DNR website. There's also a good informational page about Injured Wildlife and what to do about them. If you love animals and think you'd be able to help as a trained rehabilitator, you can contact the DNR for more information.

Those are sooooooooooo darn cute. Yesterday on my way home from work, I looked out into the field I was passing, and there was a fawn running as fast as it could through the field. It was so cute!! They're beautiful animals!

Great fawn pictures today! Normally every year we get to watch fawns that are born in our field grow until they are big enough to jump the fences. This year there are no fawns to watch, I'm sure the devastating floods had a big part of that.

The fawn in first picture wobbled across the Eagle Harbor shortcut road in front of my car. I had to brake to let it cross. It bedded down on side of road to hide. I backed up to see if it was allright. I took that picture out of window. The mother must have been close.

Picture here is a doe & fawn that scooted out in front of us on Brockway Mtn. Drive just aways past Silver River Falls!

On our way UP, in L'Anse right in town on the 4 lane part a similiar situation. A big doe with fawn came down a small wooded hill amongst all the stores, shops etc. They bolted across the road wherein the mother saw all the traffic, changed her mind, skidded to a stop right in the middle of the road. The fawn did likewise but fell down in the middle of the road and panicked so then did the doe. The oncoming traffic saw the situation in time and slowed. I braked hard and blinked the brake lights so the traffic behind me would know. Finally the doe did a 180 and the poor little fawn managed to get up and follow its mom back from where they started. Scary situation for a few seconds!

I'm late posting but I've been out of town for a few days. We have a doe w/ triplet fawns in our area this year. They were in our yard the other day. I'm sure she was teaching them to eat our plants! Beautiful nuisances is what they are....
