In case you're wondering, the Keweenaw isn't always sunshine and roses, we get our share of fog too and Paul Roberts sent in these photos to prove it. He snapped several shots around downtown Calumet, including a view looking down Oak St. with Carmelita's Restaurant off to the left of the photo and St. Paul the Apostle Church to the right. Then he took several near the Coppertown Museum and Boutique, which was shrouded in the fog, while the flags of the nations gently flapped in the breeze. Fog or no fog, there's always something historic and interesting to find on Mainstreet Calumet.

Don't forget, Pastyfest kicks off tonight with a "Pasty Poetry Throwdown" at the Conglomerate Café, where pasty-themed poetry will be read. Then the festivities continue on through Friday, with Saturday being the Big Day where you can watch the parade and participate in loads of Pasty fun at Agassiz Park.

Foggy this morning too, lots of stuff to look at there.

I can just feel the dampness in everything. Kind of hazy here in Lansing today too. My windows in the house were fogged up this morning from all the humidity. It's better than snow, it's better than snow, it's better than snow....

I'm with Helen, anything is better than the big white stuff coming down. Sharon's cam looks foggy today too.

Our visit to Coppertown USA was a high point of my trip in '06. Think I may have even seen Grandpa Slattery in one of the photos.

Can't tell you how many times I've seen that very same view (the first shot) as I traveled to our home on the corner of Tenth and Oak Streets. Sure looks familiar, even now some nearly 25 years later. It's my computer background today! Thanks for supplying the nostalgic view.

The Pastyfest T-shirts are awesome! I'm going to have to order two!

I love snow. Would rather have it then the hot weather we are having now. Muggy and getting hot. Come on snow.

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 12:03 pm:

Hi
All things in their season; I love snow in ski season but would be dismayed to encounter it in late June.

I don't know about up north, but downstate our weather has been kind of like an attack of malaria: fever (above normal temps) then chills (below normal temps) and so on. Today is supposed to be in the high 80's.

By Larry Chabot, (Lchabot) on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 12:50 pm:

Do you recall the cameo tribute to Christine Gasvoda of Calumet
last April 13th - the 63rd anniversary of her death in World War
II? She is buried in the American Cemetery in Margraten,
Netherlands with 8,301 other fallen Americans. I recently
learned that her gravesite is visited regularly by a Dutch woman,
who honors Christine's ultimate sacrifice and makes sure that
she is not forgotten.

By Gloptmike (Gloptmike) on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 01:46 pm:

I sure wish we had your fog instead of all the smoke that we have been getting from the fire in the Great Dismal Swamp and from the wild fires in NC.
Depending on the wind direction we have a heavy blue haze and the smell of smoke. Makes it difficult to breathe when walking or working outside.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 04:49 pm:

Thanks for sharing that information Larry. The Dutch certainly do a
wonderful job of honoring our fallen American veterans.

By E. Neil Harri (Ilmayksi) on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 05:56 pm:

It proves the old statement about Americans.
We have fought in many wars and the only land we ever occupied was just enough to bury our dead.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 07:19 pm:

Mikie, Mikie, Mikie!!!! Repeat after me!!
I love summer!!
I love summer!!
I love summer!!
Good grief! It's just June!!!!!!!!!

By Bob S (Oldtoot) on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 08:57 pm:

I love snow and cold weather. Here in ILlinois it is hot and humid.
The fog pics are neat.

Last week someone said listerine was good for keeping mosquitos
at bay. Maybe for Michigan mosquitos, but their Illinois brethren
are not effected, and may even be attracted by the stuff.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, June 26, 2008 - 11:44 pm:

Hei Old Toot, I agree. Would prefer cooler temps with a little snow thrown in. Should have married a yooper instead of Precious. She would never move out of Berkley. Best place for me to live would be on Lake Michigan by Ste. Ignace. Love the dunes there. There is a green cottage across the street from the dunes that I would love to live in. But will spend the rest of my life here in Berkley. Oh well Jimmie the fat white cat wouldn't like the cold either. Deb, four months and the cold will return.

By Roger Somero (Rsomero) on Friday, June 27, 2008 - 08:27 pm:

We could use some fog here instead of all the smoke we have. 800 fires have been reported statewide since last week. Gloptmike in VA: we were there 2 weeks ago and saw lots of smoke. Still burning, wow.
