Just in case anyone remembers her, I wanted to let people know that my mother, Violet Miller, has been placed on Hospice. She just celebrated her 94th birthday last week and has not been eating much. She is living in a nursing home in Detroit, close to my sister. She has had advanced dementia for many years, but her fondest wish has been to go back to the Copper Country.
Violet and my father, Eino Miller, owned the Keweenaw Agate Shop, both the one in Copper Harbor and in Ahmeek. They sold it in 1973. My mother was the town clerk of Ahmeek for many years. She is featured in the book "Keweenaw Characters" by Mac Frimodig. She and my grandparents are also the subject of the book "Diary of an Isle Royale Schoolteacher."
My parents also belonged to the Copper Country Art Association and made handmade jewelry, copper bowls, and copper enameling. I have a blog dedicated to my mother's enameling. See The Art of Copper Enamaling

Sage, I am so sorry to hear about your mom! I read the book, "Diary of an Isle Royale School Teacher" a number of years ago, and I enjoyed it a lot! My heart goes out to you and your family at this difficult time!

Boy, it must be dripping up there today. I checked the temp. twice and it was 46F earlier and 47 just now. And I see water under the bridge.
