Good Morning, Everyone! Happy St Patrick's Day! Are you all wearing at least a little bit of green today, since most of us at least claim to have a bit of Irish in us, on this one day of the year? I had to chuckle to myself last night when my son said that he had to wear something green on today, so he wouldn't get pinched by kids at school, as I remember those days, myself. Capt Paul, are you cooking your own corned beef and cabbage again this year, like last year? :-)

It looks like we have stormy weather to look forward to tonight and tomorrow. I guess that means we have to pay for having nice weather on the weekend, but better a nice weekend. I just hope we don't have the ice that they are talking about being possible. Thunderstorms and/or snow are ok, just not ice. :-)

Good Morning and Happy St.Pat's Day to all!!! Woke up this morning to see the Cedar River is flooding over into our lower field, never a dull moment on our farm!

That's a bummer, Janie! At least it is early enough that I doubt you would have planted it yet! But, I don't like flooding anytime, though; I hope you don't lose much of your good black Iowa top soil! If I remember right, you are in southeast Iowa? (My ties are primarily to northwest Iowa.)

Marianne, I'm in east-central Iowa on sandy soil. The ground that is flooding is ground that is in the 100 yr. flood-plain, so it won't cause any damage to the house or other parts of the farm, but will house plenty of mosqitos(sp?) this year. Actually this part of our farm that floods was once where the Cedar River river bed originally flowed. We call it or lake-front property.

Happy Saint Partick's Day!!! I was one of the winners on George Hite's site and we received our pasty's last week and had them that night for supper and they was soooo good and then our son had us over for supper last night and he corn beef and cabbage now how luckey do you think we are. God was so good to us when he gave us children.

Top o' the mornin' all. Fine day of light rain, or as they say in Ireland a "heavy mist". Hope to get back to Ireland one day. Fixing corned beef and cabbage today. Not this year, unfortunitely. I'm supposed to be on a diet that the Dr. is keeping a strict eye on. We still have 2 pasties in the fridge from last week so we may have a cornish dinner eaten by a Scottish Highlander on an irish holiday; how screwed up is that??

I don't make corned beef and cabbage anymore. We'll be going to Arby's tonight where I'll have a corned beef wrap. They ARE delish! My daughter is doing a 1/2 hour program of Irish music at a local senior center at lunch today. Too bad I couldn't be there. I've always told her (semi-jokingly) that she could go from bar to bar on St. Paddy's Day and sing Danny Boy with a tin cup and make lots o' money! Kids, they just don't listen.

Don't feel bad Capt. I'm cooking Polish Sausage. And Marsha my Mom says she gave up cause I never listened to her before so why start now.

Ahh, it will be corned beef and cabbage with all the trimmings here tonight. Perhaps, I will just add a glass of Tullamore Dew to top it all off.

Sort of off topic but seeing it in today's photos made me wonder.. Hey Charlie what ever happened to that new van that so many pitched in for for all the folks at the home? I am sure, without a doubt you did something wonderful with it. I just don't recall seeing what that was. Thanks and Happy St "me" day..

The van gave years of service to the residents at Still Waters, and is still in excellent condition. It is in storage , waiting for the day when Still Waters opens again, perhaps to serve veterans and their spouses in an assisted living setting. If anyone knows of a source of about $500,000, let me know. It is my understanding that this might be all the critical mass needed to get the home open once more.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all! We had our corned beef and cabbage yesterday. Tradition in our house every year.
