Hey Charlie, just wanted to say that I enjoyed the "This day in history" piece about Smokey Bear. He was found not too far from where I used to live in New Mexico in the Capitan Mountains. I only wonder where you got 2/28/1928 as the year Smokey was born?? Every source I can find (including the Forest Service) cites August 9, 1944 as the birthdate for the ad campaign, with the living symbol of Smokey being found in the spring of 1950.

Nothing to get in a tizzie over, just food for thought.....

Do a Google search on [Smokey "February 28, 1928"] and you'll find a number of websites which repeat the claim that the beloved bear was born on this day, including BrainHistory.com , BullWorks.net and ANYDAY. There does seem to be some mystery and controversy surrounding the exact day, but that all comes with the territory when you're a legendary figure.

Congratulation on Ten wonderful years of this website. We have sure enjoyed the slide shows and music, This day in history. We sincerely hope it will continue for another ten or more.
