Well, Mary is back, and life is returning to normal after a couple of week's of experimenting with these slideshows +/- music +/- text +/- voice. We have settled on:

1 - Music and text with the decade in review on the What'sUP page

2 - Music and voice on "This Day in History" both "big picture" and dial versions

3 - Music, voice, and text on weekly Pasty Cameos

Some have suggested an audio-only version of "This Day in History", and to set up an archive of links to all of this multi-media content.

We also welcome any info you might have about future "Days in History". As you probably noticed, everything has a connection with the U.P., so you're welcome to email me with any significant date/event which might be included. Thanks to all who have contributed ideas to get these features underway as we approach the Pasty Cam's 10th anniversary.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, February 18, 2008 - 09:09 am:

Good Morning, Everyone, from icy mid-Michigan. I'm glad our school district has a vacation day today for President's Day, so we did not have to use a snow day; I understand that we have at least one snow day left. Some of the other districts in the area had to use another snow day today because of the ice, so they will probably have to go into part of the summer, as they had already used up all of their snow days. It was like a skating rink here, on the streets, sidewalks, driveways, and you name it. Yesterday was one of those days that was fit for neither man nor beast, and it re-froze overnight--ugh! I'll take snow over ice, any day!

Happy President's Day! Welcome back, Mary--we missed you!

Mrs Jwahtola, one never knows what post is going to bring up long lost memories. You mentioned Essex Wire in Hillsdale. My Grandfather worked there his entire working life and one of my aunts was the company nurse. That was before the '62 strike. The name is Bildner. There are still quite a few still in the Hillsdale area.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Monday, February 18, 2008 - 06:41 pm:

Went to the doctor today and he wanted to know how much beer I drank a day. I told him one or two. He asked me "Cans?" I replied "No, six packs." What a stupid question, eh? That's it for going to the doctor for me.

By John W (Jwahtola) on Monday, February 18, 2008 - 06:59 pm:

My father worked for Essex wire from 1959 thourgh 1962. After the strike he quit to be a full time dairy farmer. What was your grandfather's first name?
I know a Dorthy Bildner. She lives in Hillsdale.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Monday, February 18, 2008 - 07:53 pm:

Jwahtola,
My grandfather's name was John Bildner. Dorothy is an aunt; she was married to the late Don.
It was a very large family...18 siblings.

By John W (Jwahtola) on Monday, February 18, 2008 - 08:17 pm:

We knew Don and Dorthy from working at the 4-H kitchen at the Hillsdale County Fair.
