Thanks to so many who have suggested topics and music for our Pasty Cameo feature which was introduced this month.

Good Morning!
First Post

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 07:19 am:

Good morning! Is it just me, or is there no picture?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 07:20 am:

Never mind! It's coming now.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 07:22 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! That is a beautiful picture of a sunrise or sunset over water! I love the new pictures set to music, but I miss knowing what the pictures are of. Thank you, Charlie for all of it!

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 07:34 am:

Marianne - others have mentioned that as well, that it would be nice to hear a little about each picture. Maybe when Mary gets back, she can help me research the basic information for the Cameos each morning.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 07:51 am:

Charlie...Great composition! The zoom effect along with the music is great, like a mini-meditation session.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 07:56 am:

Charlie, some would like to hear informtion about the picture, which is a good idea. However, that may interfere with the relaxing music.

Suggestion: How about a few typed words at the bottom on each picture to describe the scene?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 07:57 am:

The opening pic today appears to be Great Sand Bay at sunset. Im guessing that if you want info on each photo you could check the cam notes each year in the past for February 13; at least it's a start......

By john mich (Johnofmi) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 08:06 am:

The Jacobsville lighthouse is for sale, $999000. Listed on Craigslist:

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 08:18 am:

And to think that use to be a place to play "hide an seek". Ahh for the good ol' days.

By Heikki (Heikki) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 08:27 am:

Charley,
The background (flute) music.....wouldn't be some of James Galway's work, would it?

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 08:40 am:

It's UK musician Simon Wolfe, who has done a lot of royalty buy-out music for the Discovery Channel and others. The music you hear on our Cameos are known as "royalty free" so we have the rights to use it without bringing down the wrath of the Recording Industry Association of America.

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 08:49 am:

So Charley that probably means you have to pay something for the music up front, right? Question: how much and how would one donate for this purpose?

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 09:48 am:

Yes, it costs up front to buy "royalty free music", which is why they call it "buy-out" CD's. Part of the cost of this has been covered by our sponsor Keweenaw Video, and we pay for others that fit the mood.

Appreciate the donation offer. Instead, how about if you just use it to buy some pasties? We'll know you did it for the music (nudge, wink).

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 10:14 am:

Idea...music pasties, just like the Hallmark cards!

By Heikki (Heikki) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 10:14 am:

Simon Wolfe, another player of a "golden flute".
Coulda sworn it was Galway. Thx

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 10:25 am:

Oh great I can see it now.... When you open your package of pasties there will be Weird Al belting out "EAT IT"..... ;-)

By Peg Hardt (Almostup) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 10:57 am:

I agree with Alex. Music only on this page but with the year identified and a few typed words describing the photo like you did on the Pasty Cameo for Feb 6.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 11:08 am:

Thanks, Capt. Now I am laughing like an idiot at work! Have a good day everyone.

By Heikki (Heikki) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 12:24 pm:

Hmm, Valentine's Day. A box of expensive chocolates? A romantic dinner? An expensive bottle of wine?

Thinking more on the lines of milk duds, McDonalds and a case of brewskis.

By Jim Anderson (Yooper54915) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 06:44 pm:

Charlie;

Saw the pictures a few weeks ago featuring the original C.G. Cutter Mackinaw. Think you might find enough material to do a pasty cameo on the old lady? She was a mighty impressive ship!!

P.S. My cousin is one of your pasty.net's competetors(I know that spellled wrong LOL). Cousin is eric over at Toni's Country Kitchen

Keep up the good work, and look forward to the cameos every day.

Mr Snowman after meeting Mrs. Snowman in the Women's Page, I can see why she names laughter as a common bonds in your marriage. Milk Duds and McD indeed. You romantic fool you, sweeping her off her feet!

By Suzy Lofquist (Suzymn41) on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 - 07:55 pm:

Speaking of great music, at Christmastime I spotted a CD by Erin Smith in a shop I frequent here in Minneapolis. It caught my eye because some of the songs took me right up to the UP:"Misery Bay","Portage","Calumet" and the cover song "Around This Place". It was recorded at Michigan Tech I believe. Erin has a great smooth mellow voice. It would make a good background for the cameo (when Charlie isn't talking). Love the cameos!
