Actually there are 2 improvements in this page, compared to yesterday. We need to start some kind of trivia award for these kinda things.

Good Morning, Everyone, from snowy mid-Michigan. We have a Winter Wonderland here this morning, the calm after the storm. Today will be a day of digging out, but it is gorgeous. I bet the City Forest will be busy later today with sledders, tobogganers, cross country skiers, and others, enjoying all of this beautiful snow that we now have again. I heard that some of the school districts are now out of snow days, at least after today. I remember back in the later 1980's, etc, the governor had to forgive classroom time/snow days because of the heavy winters. I suspect that will be in order again this year, since we have already had more than double our normal ANNUAL snowfall here in Trollville, and the snowfall season is not quite half over, according to the meteorologists.

Congratulations, Liz, on your Early Bird. And, I missed yesterday's, so congratulations to Theresa Brunk for her Early Bird yesterday!

We got 13" of snow yesterday! So I'm enjoying my fourth snow day. We're usually lucky to get one!

My 10th grade daughter was actually disappointed that school was cancelled today because it is Spirit Week for basketball homecoming and today was supposed to be Excess Accessory Day and she was all decked out and ready to go. Such is life...

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, February 7, 2008 - 12:42 pm:

Beautiful blue sky here in Houghton, I'm going to pretend its going to last for now. Enjoy your snowdays guys!

Hey Charlie, is the "whoops" picture out at the Iron Gate Rd. at Gratiot Lake?

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Thursday, February 7, 2008 - 09:40 pm:

Sure looks like Iron Gate. The last time we were out there, somebody had dumped a whole lot of old carpeting all over the place.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Thursday, February 7, 2008 - 10:39 pm:

Great, probably the guy in the red cabin off the main road, you know, the junk yard!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, February 7, 2008 - 11:25 pm:

Just got some good news don't have lung cancer. Been worried for the last month. Now I am included in a study with the Karmonos Cancer Center. Because I worked for some time with asbestos and I have all kind of scarring on my lungs. Thanks for letting me unload, I really feel good.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, February 7, 2008 - 11:58 pm:

That is terrific news that it is not cancer, Mikie!

I worked with some asbestos years ago. And, now I seem to be fairly susceptible to pneumonia, but I don't know about lung scarring. I am losing lung capacity, after my last pneumonia bout a couple of years ago, though.

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Friday, February 8, 2008 - 12:02 am:

Uncle Chuck the whoops picture was taken just north of Gay on a logging road, I was on my way back to look at some land with the real estate agent pictured holding the truck up ( Yes holding it was on the edge of laying on it’s side ). After driving back in a ways we ran into a logging truck on his way out, we had to back down the road for a long time to find a safe spot to pull off. I noticed a pile of logs on the right of the truck so I move ever so slightly to the left to keep from hitting the mirror and next thing you know “whoops”. The driver was very nice and was gone for about 20 minutes to go down the road to get a skid steer to pull me out, lets just say when I got out to thank them I should have had on ice skates not boots, the road was glare ice from the trucks beating it down. After being pulled out I took a picture of the tire impressions left in the snow, so perfect you could even read the Good Year and see the lug nuts.

So happy to read your good news Mikie!

By paul (Pungvait) on Friday, February 8, 2008 - 11:33 am:

the "old carpeting" on iron gate road is a by-product of paper production - somebody thought it could be used to stabilize roads

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Friday, February 8, 2008 - 10:28 pm:

Hei Mikie, When I was a kid I used to help my Mom mix the asbestos powder with water to make a paste to put around the smoke pipe from the wood stove where it went through the wall. It is fireproof, y'know. We did that a few times. I've wondered about stuff like that every so often. I mean we didn't protect ourselves from the 'deadly asbestos' and I'm still around. ??? Had a 29 blood glucose the other day, lowest one for me. But it was just before supper. Holy Wah!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, February 9, 2008 - 12:07 am:

Ken 29 is dangerously low. I think you should get it checked. I passed out in May because of low blood sugar and hit a guard rail. Almost killed myself and my wife. I am still having problems and she broke her neck. Get checked on the asbestos it is a hideous way to go.
