Taking a walk in a winter field here UP North requires some extra gear, namely snowshoes or skis. In today's photos from Karen Dugdale, snowshoes were the chosen mode of transportation for two sets of the tracks, with the third being from a snowmobile. Sure looks like a relaxing walk to take, heading into the setting sun.

I like the looks of the "filtered" sun in the second photo too. Snow in the air almost obscuring the brightness, yet it still shines through, making a glowing ball in the sky. Makes for a mysterious looking scene. With the changes in the weather, we get to see the many faces of the sun, sometimes all in the same day.

Good Morning (yawn) Nice pictures. I wish i could see that some times. Im not really much of an outdoors person in the winter, but in the summer...: )

I'm sad to report that Lake Linden lost a good business overnight--the Cenex gas station/convenience store. TV-6 News reports it's a total loss.

I love it. I have kids in class that have no idea what a woods looks like. So much for "Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening."

Terrific pictures again. They have a calming effect, that's for sure. I'm sure she had a great time out walking. I prefer the automobile in the winter, but I love to walk in the summer.

Hi
I'm heading to Cheboygan this weekend and I'd like a reality check from anyone in the area. The snow cover map at NOAA has around 30 inches but John Dee's site has 19 inches. Either way it'll take some work to get to, and clear, the door of the cabin, but it'd be good to know what the actual depth is.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 08:22 am:

Good Morning, that is quite a ways to walk. Great way to go in the woods.

Debi, drove past the gas station this morning on my way to work and the place is all roped off. Its bad, hope they are able to rebuild quickly.

Great pictures, always love snow shoeing in the Keewenaw.

Kathyl:

My garden fence is 24 inches tall. I haven't seen it for
weeks now. Last night here in Calumet, we got a
surprise dumping of lake effect and I have scooped 3
times this morning just to get to work. (Thanks to the
plow). I am going to push the snow away from the
windows tonight so we can see out. Don't come North
unless you like snow, and lots of it!!!

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 12:53 pm:

Hi
Thanks Musicteacher, but, I wanted to know about Cheboygan in the northern lower. Calumet was not on the docket for a weekend trip from Ann Arbor.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 02:08 pm:

Musicteacher, I feel your pain. I was very happy it was light snow, but the plows found some extra large chunks of icy slush to leave for me at the end of the driveway as a special surprise gift.

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 02:47 pm:

What happened to the gas station? Fire what a loss it is my last stop on the way to the cabin.

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 02:49 pm:

I just read about it on the What's up, I hope they can rebuild quickly

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Friday, February 22, 2008 - 04:13 pm:

Hey Steve, our last stop as well before we head to Little Betsy, hope they rebuild.
