Many of these students pausing to watch the game, are on their way back to the dorm after hours of work on snow sculptures, getting ready for Winter Carnival.

Good morning all! Welcome to the last week of January.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, January 28, 2008 - 07:14 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! My guys had a great time sledding on Saturday night. My youngest son said it was great sledding weather, with not many people out. We will be losing some of our snow overnight tonight and tomorrow. But, never fear, we have more expected on Friday. I hope you all have a good week.

Good morning! My son and his wife are getting anxious to go UP for Winter Carnival. She's from WI and is a HUGE Badgers fan. Actually, he's always been a Badgers fan also. So they're looking forward to the game on Saturday night. My young grandson is going too. Should be a fun trip. Hope the weather's not TOO frigid.

I'm not sure if this the appropiate place to write this. But last week or so a woman named Gayle? was inquiring about opportunities in the UP as she was interested in moving there. I've been reading my latest issue of the magazine 'Lake Superior". And there is a large feature article all about the big needs for workers in all kinds of jobs. This sounds like exactly what she's interested in. Hope she reads this and checks into that further. Good luck Gayle

The picture reminds me. Yesterday I took my daughters ice skating at the indoor rink at the Lloyd Center (a mall) in downtown Portland, Oregon. I tried to explain that as a kid, we skated outdoors in Escanaba. They have no idea what it is like to skate until you can't feel your feet, the social life (flirting) in the warming huts, or that you could actually chase girls (and girls boys) around the ice rink with out getting yelled at! It just isn't the same without the nip at your nose from old Jack Frost!

Yes the last week of January certainly is a good one to get behind us!! Hoping the next 6 weeks move along quickly!---Winter= "HUMBUG"

Can anyone tell me about the Frozen Nova project some folks from MTU are doing? It was referenced in Jalopnik, a national car blog that obsesses on cars. The blog on the project is http://frozencar.blogspot.com/ but I can't find out why they are freezing the car, or what they hope to gain from it. Anyone know?

Mary says: The Daily Mining Gazette had an article about the artists freezing the Nova, you can read it HERE.

Cheerokeeyooper, Richard. Oh my do I remember those days. Back in the '50's for me! Wish I had a dime for every hour I spent on the outdoor ice rink. The funnest was flirting and skating backwards and spinning, oh my! The worst was "crack the whip" and those nasty boys who teased!
