Good Morning, Everyone! I have to share this (my youngest son is off to school, so he's not here to stop me). :-) This morning, on CBS's Morning Show, they have half the show in Liverpool, England, with Ringo Starr as a guest co-host this morning. (Liverpool is kicking off a year's celebration of Liverpool as the cultural center of Europe.) I told my youngest son that CBS finally managed to get me to watch their Morning Show, because Ringo Starr is a guest co-host. And, my youngest looked me straight in the eye, and he asked me, "Who is Ringo Starr?"! My jaw dropped...Talk about a generation gap!!! I told him that his music teachers would be upset with him, but he could not understand, until I answered his question. He understood then. (Note: No, I was never a screaming Beatles' fan, but they did have some good music. I never went to a Beatles concert, but I do have a few of their old albums.)

I was in England during the Beatles' early years. If memory serves, they performed many times at a spot named "The Cave" in Liverpool. Those days I never cared for their music, as Burt Bacharach's compositions appealed to me more as sung by Cilla Black in the U.K. and Dionne Warwick in the U.S.. However, in my later years, nostalgia has whetted my appetite for the Beatles' work and I truly enjoy most of their songs today.

It seems like it was called "The Cavern Club". Don't know for sure, but since it popped into my head so quickly it must be right!

Good morning!

Brrr! Looks cold to me.

Back in 1964 my oldest sister had a 2 dr. black w/red interior '58 Chevy Impala with a 327 4v power house, with a Ringo Starr bobble-head doll that I thought was so cool! Now when I look back the car was the cool thing, Ringo was just along for the ride.

Marsha,
Yes, that's it! Knew it had something to do with a cave/cavern.

We went to Presque Isle a few years ago when we went UP. Beautiful! Have to say, though, that every single nature trail we went on said it was 1/2 mile. Every one of them said 1/2 mile. Let me tell you those were the longest 1/2 mile trails I've ever been on. Maybe they mean as the crow flies, it certainly could not have been actual distance. LOL

At the end of the point at Presque Isle is great place to go cliff diving into the big lake, did it quite alot in my younger years- great times!

By Tom (Tom) on Friday, January 11, 2008 - 03:06 pm:

Uncle Charlie, when did you do your cliff diving on Presque Isle? I was there in the early 1960s.
Darn cold plunge.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Friday, January 11, 2008 - 03:29 pm:

Tom-76 to 80, and now I watch my niece's and nephews do it when passing thru that great city, on our way to the keweenaw, I'd still do it myself but climbing up the rocks is a pain now!

Uncle Chuck, just to let you know, the only relationship I have with rocks is to put them in my drink.

By Matt Karhu (Matt_k) on Friday, January 11, 2008 - 08:17 pm:

I wonder what kind of a present-day music teacher would be upset with a student who didn't know who Ringo Starr is. Perhaps such a music teacher didn't pay attention during their college studies of U.S. composers and musicians?
