Have camera, will travel. That must be E. Neil Harri's motto, since it doesn't matter whether he's piloting his plane or driving his car, he always manages to snap his shutter at just the right time. In case you're having trouble recognizing the first location from the air, that's Eagle Harbor, Neil's hometown, but I'm not saying which house is his. If you look in close though, you can pick out a familiar landmark, the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse, shining across the harbor on New Year's Day. Looks like a good day to keep both feet on the ground, with the wind blowing, the snow falling and the waves crashing.

I don't think Neil was driving his car with the second shot. It appears to be the same angle as a photo that appeared on the Pasty Cam back in the summer. It's actually the view out his front window.

Thanks for the fantastic pictures!

Once again, great photography by Neil Harri. In the second picture, I can almost feel the biting wind and penetrating cold.

I love the second picture! I have seen and have my own pictures of that same awesome snowy blustery sight of the Eagle Harbor lighthouse as well with the Copper Harbor lighthouse on many snowmobile vacations. Many amazing snowmobile vacations from UP in the U.P. in my life!

SECOND PIC DOES GIVE YA THE SHIVERS. LOOKS LIKE IT COULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM THE VICINITY OF THE MARINA.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 08:12 am:

The harbor is choppy in the second one. I always enjoy Neils Pictures.

AWESOME!!

Wow! What a view. I am envious. Especially right now when my view is the parking lot at work. Woo hoo! Happy Friday!!

I'd know that lighthouse anywhere! No matter where you shoot it from, it's gorgeous. I have many pictures of this beautiful lighthouse! Very nice pictures.

That is my favorite lighthouse in Michigan! I love Eagle Harbor...can't wait to go there again someday!

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 10:05 am:

Hi
The second picture takes you back to the days when lighthouses were vital. Nowadays the freighters have other navigational aids, and it doesn't look like a day for pleasure boating by small craft! But can you imagine being in a vessel in trouble in those conditions? ...or being one of the brave lighthouse personnel who had to go out into the waves to rescue people?

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 11:08 am:

Takes me back to the Lake Breeze and my honeymoon, July, 1972. Saw the northern lights from there on that trip. I have a picture of me in a bikini on that beach way back then when I was 20! I'd better hold on to that memory! In the warm season I'm through there once a month on my way to the Harbor Haus. Maija, where are you in that picture?

How can I get the thrid photo......?

By Micheal D. K. Owen (Mdowen) on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 01:01 pm:

Thanks to my one of my good friends and year-round Eagle Harbor residents for bringing these pictures to my attention. The most photographed landmark on the Great Lakes looks wonderful regardless of the perspective or season.

Also, thanks to the efforts of several of our good neighbors for making the light house light up again after a brief lapse. Well done and thanks. Kuk

Marsha: if I was there, where I'd love to be, I'd be in the house we used to rent just a few doors down from Neil, my father's cousin. But sadly, that house is being sold. This year, we'll be in a house in Eagle River.

By Cindy, New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 03:28 pm:

I share the same sentiments of so many here. Eagle Harbor Lighthouse is beautiful from any angle. I am dying to see it in the wintertime, but so far have not been able to do it. The long drive from southeast Michigan would be worth it, I'm sure.

By Little M (Littlem) on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 07:00 pm:

neil's pictures are always great! that second one makes me want to curl up with a cup of tea. what a view to watch like that! i'm glad i was able to go UP there and visit my home and parents and friends. i came back today and miss it already!

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Friday, January 4, 2008 - 10:47 pm:

Hey Snowman- I think we should get Neil to take us skydiving, what do ya say?

By Snowman (Snowman) on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 07:39 am:

Uncle Chuck, after a few brewskis, I'm game for anything. You go first.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 09:42 am:

I see a picnic table in the 2nd picture, which means maybe it was taken from the marina or something? Just a guess on my part but with the picnic table there, it's hard to believe it was taken from the same angle as the one from last summer. Correct me if I'm wrong. Neil???

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 09:46 am:

No, this is straight across Eagle Harbor and would definitely be the view from Neil and Susan's house. The Marina is quite a way down and quite a different view.

By E. Neil Harri (Ilmayksi) on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 09:50 am:

The second photo was taken from the marina.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 09:58 am:

Thanks, Neil!!! I thought so but wasn't real sure. Thanks for correcting us.

By CJB (Cjb) on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 04:10 pm:

Yes, it definitely is good to see photos of the lighthouse with the light visible again. Thanks, Neil, for the great shots.....the one from the Marina definitely gives me the shivers! Some Eagle Harborites have even been known to sit out on a cottage deck on icy lawnchairs in minus 10 windchill just to drink a brew and say they did it. Can't imagine. ;o)
