Eight years ago we watched Dennis Pini clear the walk in front of Calumet Post Office. Dennis was postmaster at the time, no stranger to the Pasty Cam:

Interesting to note, Dennis is the brother of our own Pasty Cam editor Mary Drew, who mentioned that he is retiring this month. Congratulations Dennis!

Good Morning. Congratulations Deb!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 07:37 am:

Good for you, Deb! I'm thinking about your family extra hard the
next few days and keeping your son in my prayers as the date of
his surgery approaches.

It's nippy here in Toronto -13C. We're heading in a northerly
direction this morning to chop down our Christmas tree. We'll have
our son and dog with us and a thermos of hot tea.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 07:46 am:

Thank you Kosk. I'm happy I have my job or I'd be having a total meltdown every day lately. I work this morning and then we're off to TSO. Tomorrow will be hard. We'll wrap the rest of the presents and pack our suitcases for the week. I'm imagining a few tears will be shed. Monday we go down for his pre-op 2 hour appt. I will come back and work a few hours, get up around 4 on Tuesday morning to leave for the hospital and he's in surgery by 7:30. Thank you so much for your prayers. I have to admit to being very afraid. I'm sure it will turn out okay, but it doesn't stop me from being afraid.

By Pennie (Trolldiva) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 07:52 am:

We are all here for you Deb.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 08:46 am:

Deb, will remember your son and you in prayer. Don't ever be ashamed for being afraid or worrying.....we wouldn't be real moms if we didn't worry about our children. May God bless your son, you, and your family.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 10:38 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! Happy Saturday! I was talking to my special needs son yesterday, about this winter is lookinng like it may already be giving him the snow he wants. All of sudden, it occurred to me that it is not even winter yet, it is still fall. We got a good laugh together out of that one! He loves the snow, but what we have has too much ice in it for him to enjoy the things that he likes: sledding, making snowmen, throwing snowballs (with no ice) at his brother...We are supposed to get some plain snow tomorrow, which should be more to his liking. :-)

Happy Birthday, Theresa! I hope you have a great day, and enjoy your horseback riding lesson today!

Deb & Mr Deb - My thoughts and prayers are with you and your whole family at this difficult time! I hope you can relax a little bit, for your son's sake, so he does not get too uptight about his coming surgery. Take care, and we will be praying for you. And, enjoy your TSO concert tonight; that will be wonderful!

Kosk, enjoy your family time together, getting your Christmas tree, with your son, home from Iraq. That will be a such a special time together! Please thank him for his service, for me.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 11:00 am:

Good morning from Mishawaka, IN. We are under a winter storm warning until 1:00 pm tomorrow. So far we have a dusting with the heavy stuff expected later this evening. Should be any interesting weekend.
Deb, will keep you and your son in prayers as he prepares for his surgery.

By Peter Osmar (Pcosmar) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 12:50 pm:

Hi all,
I'm new here, though not to the UP.
just want to say,
HEY.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 02:47 pm:

Crazy NOAA!!! They just can't seem to get their act together for this storm. If you read our weather forecast, it says less than an inch overnight tonight and 2 to 4 inches of snow tomorrow. BUT, at noon today, they finally raised a Winter Storm Warning (from 7 pm tonight to 7 pm tomorrow night), for 8 to 12 inches of snow, with 20 to 30 mph winds. It sounds to me like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. They didn't even add any snow totals at all in their forecast until this morning, when they decided to finally at least put up a Hazardous Weather message. I wonder if their office Christmas party was last night, or something? (At least our local meteorologists have been talking about some snow this weekend for a couple of days, now.) Oh well, we have enough gas for the snow blower; we need to make a grocery run. Our special needs son will be most happy to finally get some snow that is usable and not just a nuisance.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 02:57 pm:

Welcome Peter. Where are you from?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 04:08 pm:

Just wanted to let everyone know that I won't be on much next week. My Uncle passed away last night in Berkely and the services will be next Thursday the 20th. I'll be flying up to spend time with the family.....

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 04:15 pm:

Capt. you have my sincere condolenses.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 04:20 pm:

My sympathy to you and your family, Capt Paul. I know it is especially hard to lose a relative around Christmas.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 04:59 pm:

Welcome to the website, Peter. It's an addiction!

Marianne: I know what you're talking about. I was helping a 1st grade student a week ago. He had to fill in a blank asking what season it is. I told him how to write "winter"! Then I realized that all the other kids had written "fall" like they were supposed to!

By Peter Osmar (Pcosmar) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 06:13 pm:

Mikie, I am from here.
I grew up on Lime Island half the year and Rt#1 Dafter, the rest. Born in War Memorial Hospital in the Soo.
Capt. Paul sorry to hear of your loss.
Have a safe trip.

By Theresa R. Brunk (Trb0013) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 06:46 pm:

I know your Family, fairly well Peter. Your mother was quite the sculptress. I used to play down in your basement in Dafter, where she would throw clay pots, when I was a child. I remember grabbing on to the live wire surrounding the fenced in area where the horses were and not being able to let go. I have been to Lime Island too, to swim on the 4th of July, where we would dive off of the boat. lol Oh my, those were good times.

By Peter Osmar (Pcosmar) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 07:36 pm:

Theresa Hi,
Cool, I have been hoping to find folks from the old days.

Capt. Paul, Mr. Deb and I send our sincere sympathies. It's always tough to lose a family member, but I think it's worse at this time of year. We'll be thinking about you.

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Saturday, December 15, 2007 - 11:44 pm:

I'm adding my sympathies too Capt. Paul and also my prayers for safe travels for you too.
