By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 06:54 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! It's supposed to be a sloppy mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain until midnight, here in mid-Michigan.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 07:33 am:

A very sad sight for me. Even the old sauna has a list.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 07:58 am:

Roof repair indeed! Could this building still be there, I wonder?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 08:14 am:

Good morning! I bet the coons were loving that old shack!

By Ron Asselin (Ronasselin) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 08:22 am:

GOOD MORNING FROM ICY OMAHA! SCHOOLS ARE ALL CLOSED

By Richard Johnson (Dick_fl) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 08:42 am:

Oh Wow! A fixer-upper. I wonder how much for it.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 08:46 am:

Wow, old shingle siding too! Are those pop machines?

By John W (Jwahtola) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 08:48 am:

Getting freezing rain here in Hillsdale County Michigan. I am tired of Ice.

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 09:09 am:

Looks like old gas pumps. Maybe set at 29 cents per.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 09:16 am:

A fixer-upper, indeed, Dick fl. They sure look like old Coca Cola machines, Brooke.

We have freezing rain and sleet and snow, glop, all here in Midland, now. My husband had to take something to school for my son, and he said the antilock brakes kicked in every single time he touched the brakes. I guess I'm glad the kids all got to school before this icy mess, but I'm not looking forward to after school and after work time today.

Stay safe and warm, Everyone. And, if you must go out in the slop, drive slow and leave a bigger gap (that's a variation of MDOT's new slogan, at least here on a somewhat local level, for wintry road conditions).

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 09:23 am:

That dilapited place started out life as a horse barn. It evolved into the "oil shed". Those are gas pumps in the fore ground. The shorter one had premium, the other regular. There was a hand pump gas pump where the short one was. Pop and beer were stored in the door on the right end. It looks to be see through now though. Couldn't store anything there. The pumps had glass crowns on them. Iso vis, Permalube, Polerine, Quaker State were some of the names of products in the oil shed. Alcohol type antifreeze came in 55 gallon drums and was stored there too. The roof was supported by poles not dimensional lumber, but the construction was the same. Poles were on 24"centers. In the attic there was a lot of unused grade A lumber, a Wizard outboard motor, runners for an ice boat named the Sea Biscuit, 15 to 20 years worth of Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, and Mechanix Illustrated. These were from the '30 on. There were also about a half a dozen pairs of hand carved skiis. Those are some of the "treasures" stored there in happier times. Oh ya, there were sleighs too. Mine was a Silver Streak. Those names will ring a bell to a few folks.
Marsha's place is across the bay to the right.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 09:26 am:

Freezing rain started as I went out the door at 7:45 this morning in the Flint area. I only drive about three blocks to work. I'll have to be sure to go out at lunch and hope I can still open my car doors. If I wait until 3:15 it might not be doable! Then I have two meetings at church tonight, but if I didn't have them I would be going to my mother's to take care of her. (My husband's pinch-hitting with that job tonight.) It would be nice to stay home sometime by the fire with a cappachino and the newspaper!

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 10:11 am:

HEY WHAT HAPPEN TO MY HOME?

By Snowman (Snowman) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 10:15 am:

Sorry Uncle Chuck, had a little party, things got out of control.

By Greta Armata (Gretania) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 10:24 am:

Icy rain and sleet going on in Milwaukee. All schools in the 7 county surrounding area are cold. It's really nasty. Most of my co-workers are also staying home today, since our job is driving around the county for care management visits with the elderly. Not a fit day for man nor beast. The birds have been out at the feeders but the squirrels are hunkered down somewhere, no doubt munching on some of their stashed peanut butter crackers. Such is life in the midwest.

By Greta Armata (Gretania) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 10:26 am:

Meant to say the schools are closed....haven't had enough coffee yet this morning. Better get my fingers warmed up, as I plan on doing some work online later on.

Wow, Rowdy, are you knowledgeable or what?

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 01:22 pm:

Here in the Knoxville area it is 76 F, yesterday it was 72.

My Grandaughters are back after 3 months in Michigan. That is a good feeling on this nice day.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 01:40 pm:

Well, it's been a pretty steady rain here in Lansing, but my car thermometer says the temp is 34 so not freezing...yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that is doesn't freeze. Just be careful out there. Slip it in neutral if you start to slip, even with anti-lock brakes. Works like a charm.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 03:21 pm:

Mostly or what. Sounded good didn't it?

By Snowman (Snowman) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 05:46 pm:

Rowdy, sure did sound good, it was like taking a step back in time. Sounds like you spent a lot of time there. Sure miss those good old days.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 08:24 pm:

Well it's rained, freezing rain and next snow here in far NW Illinois. Quad Cities further south is getting it bad. So far no power outages here, SO FAR! Got candles ready but everything is electric so it could get a bit chilly. Everything looks magical, like crystal from here indoors.

By Suzy Lofquist (Suzymn41) on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 - 10:18 pm:

Rowdy,
I think you should try your hand at writing memoir. You have a real eye for details or a great memory of the important things in life.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 07:44 am:

I just read our webmaster's message about needing to help out
with pasty preparation. Keep up the good work, Charlie!

I just had a thought. What are the first websites people check out
each morning? Mine are, of course PastyCam, and also the weather
report for National Mine, Michigan (near Ishpeming )where our
daughter lives. Quickly followed by wherever our son
happens/happened to be: Baghdad, Fort Lewis, Washington. It's
nice to have him home on leave.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - 09:12 am:

I check Pasty Cam first, of course. Then usually our local Freecycle page. If you aren't familiar with Freecycle, Google it. Then you set it for your local area. Freecycle is all about keeping stuff out of landfills. You can post stuff you want to get, or stuff you want to get rid of. I try to get rid of stuff from my house most weekends. However, last night I put out a "want" for baby gates for my daughter with a very active baby. Someone replied and gave me two baby gates they no longer needed! Of course, everything is free! Another favorite is Kim Komando's Tip of the Day, which comes in my email. She's the computer geek on public radio stations. I also like Flylady, hoping I'll get motivated to organize my house. But I don't get organized because I'm on the computer reading how to do it!

Pasty Cam is my home page, then to the Animal Rescue Site Click here for an easy and free way to help care for those in need at The Animal Rescue Site! to click on that one and the other charitable sites, and then to University of Michigan hockey team's home page. They are ranked first in the country right now!
