By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 03:47 am:

I guess I can go to bed now and wake to singing of the birds and Jimmie the fat white cat running from window to window watching them, he sounds like a herd of elephants in the morning. Cold and dark here in Berkley.Christmas is just around the corner, boy has this year gone fast.

By Theresa R. Brunk (Trb0013) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 05:24 am:

Congratulations on your early bird Mikie!! It's been a long time in coming. Good Morning all.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 05:25 am:

Congratulations, Mikie. Sweet dreams.
Good morning to all who are just starting the day. Make it a good one.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 06:08 am:

Can't sleep either hey Mikie? Sounds like today is gonna be a cold one, barely 20 degrees! The coldest in a long time around here. Bundle up and stay warm everyone. Oh that poor troubled young man in Omaha caused such horror for those innocent shoppers and their families, God be with them all!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 06:45 am:

Good Morning, Everyone! Congratulations on your Early Bird (or Night Owl), Mikie! I hope you get some sleep. How was the shopping yesterday?

Do you think "they" might open the old mines with the price of copper going up so high? It would be great to see a few of them re-open.

By Karen Kraft Buck (Karenbuck) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 07:38 am:

Yesterday you were looking for a potato pie crust and I found one on the web. It's at: http://www.recipesource.com/baked-goods/pastries/00/rec0031.html
Maybe this would work for pasties.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 07:50 am:

I highly doubt "they" will ever re-open the mines of the Keweenaw; too expensive to go after that kind of copper......

How is your daughter in Jacksonville, FL doing, Marsha? We haven't heard anything for a while. Did you get a chance to go down to see her? Hang in there, and take care. My thoughts and prayers are with her and with your whole family in this very difficult situation!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 10:10 am:

Good morning everybody! I get to go to work late this morning so I'm just taking my sweet time in getting ready.

Hope you all have a great day today. Our weather is very strange for us. We have more snow on the ground for this time of year than we've had in the last 11 years. And it's colder than normal too. Hooray, hooray!!!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 10:47 am:

I am up again. Thank you for the congratulations everyone. Marsha I hope your daughter is doing well. The cold is getting me down. Hope it will cure it self soon. After JImmie had his romp through the house this morning he went through the door in his little cardboard home that Tim made for him and has been in it since. Blue sky no clouds today and Here I am a winner of a major award.Charlie will I recieve a nice award like the father in "A Christmas Story" I do have a window that could use a new lamp.

Went to the Calumet High School Band and Chorus Christmas concert last night at the Calumet Theater; what an outstanding performance. Hats off to Mr. Veenstra the Calumet Band Director. I was so proud of those kids that I had tears in my eyes.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 12:12 pm:

My husband just left for Florida with my oldest daughter to see Lisa. Maybe we can find out more soon. When she was in ICU they would only consult with my husband and I as next of kin. Now that she's out of ICU they won't tell us anything over the phone because of privacy laws. Her pelvis has to be rebuilt because there is nothing to attach the femur to.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 12:25 pm:

Thank you for the update, Marsha. I am so sorry. Hopefully your husband and oldest daughter can find out more when they are down there! That will be a very long recuperation period, I imagine. Hopefully she will heal more quickly because she is young! Hugs, thoughts, and prayers to you all!

By Richard A. Fields (Cherokeeyooper) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 12:41 pm:

For all of our Finnish friends back home, a new article in the Scientific American reports on a Finnish study that claims the best chance for Finnish men to have healthy children is to marry a woman 15 years younger. Sadly for our Swedish Friends, the woman need only be 6 years younger. Sadder still for both the Finnish and Swedish women, is that they need to marry older coots like me! My favorite qoute is this ""Wealth was the most important factor in a [Sami] marriage," Helle notes. "Love played almost no role in it.""
I hope you all are enjoying the Holiday season.

By Alex J. Tiensivu (Ajtiensivu) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 12:43 pm:

Well, we had our first breakfast pasties this morning. THEY ARE AWESOME! If you haven't tried one, you have to. They are so good! (No, they aren't paying me). The taste of the pasty crust just makes it happen! Tonight: Regular pasties! It's a UP day for us!

By Susan Lahti (Finn_in_texas) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 11:48 pm:

Alex, tell us more about those breakfast pasties. I placed an order for some regulars today, now thinking that I should have ordered some of the breakfast ones also.

By Alex J. Tiensivu (Ajtiensivu) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 11:56 pm:

They have ham, eggs, potato, swiss and cheddar cheese and they taste great... Try it out. I'll be ordering more. :)

By Susan Lahti (Finn_in_texas) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 12:08 am:

You mean there are no rutabagas in there? lol - of course with cheese that may be a bit strange. I'd like to try an order of them and then do some experimenting - maybe try some kind of sausage instead of the ham.

Thanks Alex.

Marsha, so sorry about your daughter and what she is going through. Keep us posted. I have and will be praying for her. And for you, being so far away from her and not knowing what is really going on. Glad your husband and other daughter are going down there.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - 09:07 am:
