If you're a regular visitor to the Pasty Cam pages, you may have recognized this shot from E. Neil Harri, since an almost identical shot appeared back in November, only the coloring was a bit different - no white. You can see that the river leading into Lake Superior is covered with ice now, almost to the breakwall too. And I think those are clouds off in the distance, looking like they're just lying on the surface of the lake. If you're using a high speed Internet connection, such as Pasty.NET, then click on over to the full size copy of Neil's photo HERE. It'll seem like you're in the co-pilot seat, right next to Neil!

When I saw the shot Mary had prepared for this morning, I just had to throw in the scene of Eagle River, which Neil took over the weekend. I saw him fly over for this, and I'm actually out in our driveway waving :o)

Thanks for the great pictures of one of my favorite places UP there - wish I were there now!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 06:58 am:

Great pictures. It's strange, I'm getting to recognize these places from the air now thanks to Neil. I didn't even have to look at the captions. But Eagle River is a pretty obvious one. Sorry Charlie, can't see you.

As the road goes into a y, there is a building; is that someone's residence or something other?

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 07:43 am:

Charlie--I cant' see you either but I know you're there somewhere.

Deb--Good luck as you and your family prepare for your son's
surgery.

Ah yes, the falls. One of my favorite stops in God's country (see quote).

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 08:18 am:

Neil...what type of camera do you use for these photos?

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 08:33 am:

Neil gets to see so much more than the rest of us, we are lucky to get so many views of his pictures.

By Steve L. (Steveexyooper) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 10:51 am:

+Nothing like an aerial view of home sweet home.....

By Daveofmohawk (Daveofmohawk) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 12:02 pm:

MARGARET; The building near the y that you are referring to I believe is the Houghton Township Hall.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 12:05 pm:

Thanks, I appreciate that

By David C Cloutier (Dccloutier) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 01:08 pm:

So Charlie, Where is YOUR house? We are waving back...

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 02:00 pm:

I can see my high school along the right side of the Ontonagon picture. Go Gladiators!!

By Jeff Kalember (Jeffkal) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 06:10 pm:

Ontonagon - the MAROONS - anyone know how they got this mascot? Before consolidation what was the mascot? MA from Mass, RO from Rockland, and ON from Ontonagon. Put it together and you have the Maroons ! What other UP school is the Maroons? Menominee !

By David Soumis (Davesou) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 06:14 pm:

Does anyone know who lives in the brown house to the right of the falls?
The reason I ask...we were there one day taking some pictures.
The lady there was really friendly ...waving and stuff...smiling...said hello ...

in fact, as we were driving aorund, a couple of folks waved.

Around here they would rather give the middle finger wave.

By Tom (Tom) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 07:57 pm:

I thought the mascot for the Ontonagon teams was Gladiator. It used to be Polar Bears.

By A. David Archibald (Yooperatheart61) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 08:16 pm:

tom is correct

By Jeff Kalember (Jeffkal) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 08:46 pm:

AH HA ! I stand corrected ! Ontonagon High School became Ontonagon Area High School in 1968. It was the Polar Bears until then when it consolidated with the neighboring schools. They then became the Gladiators and their school colors changed to maroon and white. Ma for Mass High School, Ro for Rockland's Roger Clark High School and On for Ontonagon High School. The building was built in 1967 and the first consolidated class to graduate from there was 1968 although the Rockland school sent their students a couple of years before that.

This was from an old pasty.com post. Their COLOR is now maroon !

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 09:35 pm:

The bigger building with the red roof to the far right center of the Eagle River pic is as I remember it, the Keweenaw County building?-- yes?

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 09:50 pm:

Ohmygosh! In the Ontonagon pic---WAY out in the distance---is that really Minnesota? An illusion? Isle Royale? waves?

By Heikki (Heikki) on Monday, December 17, 2007 - 10:38 pm:

(Russemmons)

Looks like clouds to me.

By E. Neil Harri (Ilmayksi) on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 - 08:24 am:
