Every now and then we get a nice break in the clouds like the one in the top photo by Brenda Leigh. She took these shots while snowshoeing on the eastern end of the U.P. near Sault Ste. Marie. Brenda's pictures remind me of our annual hunt for the perfect Christmas tree. First with the snow weighing the branches down, so it's almost impossible to tell what the tree will look like once it's thawed out. Then the snowshoes stuck in the snow, while you get to the task of cutting down the tree. And finally, a nice fire built with dried sticks and branches to warm up by, before you begin the journey out of the bush, dragging your tree behind you. Nice way to spend the day!

Nice Pictures. Been a long long time since I've been on a pair of snowshoes or skis. Looks cold.
29 in east central Missouri. We do have a little snow on the ground. Storm went thru Yesterday and last nite, got about an in or so.
Just enough don't need that deep stuff like you all have in the UP

That's it! Seeing these shots, I'm heading back to the Keweenaw to step into my snowshoes!

Great Pictures! It reminds me of rabbit hunting and then warming up with a good bonfire and maybe a hot dog.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 07:41 am:

Oooooooohh, I love the last shot. But I like anything that looks as if it'll make me warm. LOL

By joanne sherick (Shedoesnails) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 07:50 am:

By Alex J. Tiensivu (Ajtiensivu) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 12:00 pm:

Yesterday I posted the below and a couple of replies. I placed it in the WHAT'S UP and I was much to late, because no one logged in after this. (I need to post earlier). I hope it's OK that I post this, becuase I wanted everyone who hasn't tried them, to hear about the new breakfast pasties. --- Alex

By Alex J. Tiensivu (Ajtiensivu) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 12:43 pm:
Well, we had our first breakfast pasties this morning. THEY ARE AWESOME! If you haven't tried one, you have to. They are so good! (No, they aren't paying me). The taste of the pasty crust just makes it happen! Tonight: Regular pasties! It's a UP day for us!

Alex, tell us more about those breakfast pasties. I placed an order for some regulars today, now thinking that I should have ordered some of the breakfast ones also.

By Alex J. Tiensivu (Ajtiensivu) on Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 11:56 pm:
They have ham, eggs, potato, swiss and cheddar cheese and they taste great... Try it out. I'll be ordering more. :)

You mean there are no rutabagas in there? lol - of course with cheese that may be a bit strange. I'd like to try an order of them and then do some experimenting - maybe try some kind of sausage instead of the ham.

Thanks Alex.

There's nothing better than a nice fire to stay warm by on a cold winter day!

By Alex J. Tiensivu (Ajtiensivu) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 01:01 pm:

Is it snowing? It LOOKS like it is on the bridge cam, but I'm not sure.

By RCW (Rcw) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 02:28 pm:

Oh it's SNOW Alex. Brrrrrrrrrr Too

By Frank Picotte (Frankp) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 02:40 pm:

Did everyone foirget Pearl Harbor today?

By Michele Maatta (Mrmaatta) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 03:11 pm:

Hard to believe we're already into December much less completing the first week. I did indeed forget that it was Dec. 7th until your reminder Frank. Well here's a shout out to ALL U.S. Veterans past, present, and those yet to become. A noble and brave endeavor which I will always appreciate!

By Matt Karhu (Matt_k) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 04:44 pm:

Susan Lahti: I and an internet friend made pasties with super market meat department breakfast sausage, and Italian sausage. Both were good but we still prefer a meat mixture of ground beef and pork.

By Iron Range Dave (Blackhawk) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 05:22 pm:

Frank, Actually it was the first thing I thought of this morning as my dad spent time on a destroyer in the Pacific. He has never spoken of his experience to me even when I have casually mentioned the war. I'm only 40 something but I remember the day maybe cause I'm somewhat of a history buff and my dad was involved.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 08:20 pm:

Absolutely beautiful picture.

UncleMike, about time you registered here!

Mikie in Berkley, now you have two uncles! lol

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, December 7, 2007 - 09:44 pm:

Alex--I've never had a breakfast pasty yet. Sounds like I should try
one.

By Therese (Therese) on Saturday, December 8, 2007 - 02:59 pm:

Cheese on top was the only was I would eat rutabuggers when young. Now I just tell myself they are good for me and choke them down. They're much better inside a pasty!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, December 9, 2007 - 04:32 pm:

Oh boy Uncle Chuck, I don't have any uncles left so I love having replacement ones. Was I named after Uncle Mike?
