If you live in the Keweenaw, you already know this... we were bombarded with snow over the weekend. I'm not sure what the official totals were, but here are a few pictures taken yesterday in Lake Linden, to give you an idea. Remember now, this is only the first week of December. You can judge the height of the piles of snow by the stop sign, the fire hydrant and the vehicles nearby. We're looking down M-26 (also known as Calumet Street) in the third shot, as you enter town, with snow banks piled as high as the tops of the cars on the street. Sure hope someone turns the "snow guns" down just a bit, because at this rate we'll be buried by Christmas!

Now that's what I'd call impressive. Our six inch snow fall over the weekend looks like small potatoes. The freezing rain is about to start here in Toronto. The wind has already arrived. Give me snow any day over freezing rain.

That is amazing, particularly for the first week in December, Mary! It sure looks a whole lot different than it did the last week in June when I was there! Is this back to what a normal UP winter would look like, or is this more than that would normally be? It might be good to bring the snow mobile tourists for the season, though?
We had about 3 inches of snow overnight Saturday and Sunday morning, some mixed with sleet, etc, and then freezing rain and rain. Our power was out for an hour and a half yesterday afternoon. I was surprised at how much our house cooled off, in a short period of time. These high winds don't help matters. We are supposed to have gusts to 45 mph here today.
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

How many times do I remember the view in the 3rd shot as I would come home from Tech every day. I don't know, after the weekend we had here, the Dr. and I were missing the snow and cold quite a bit. It was 78° and 83° over the weekend; this is NOT December!!!! Now the weathergirl in the morning says to break out the winter jacket for the cold tomorrow morning, it's going down to 33°......

Ahhhhhhhhh, my old stomping grounds. How I miss the Copper Country. How I DON'T miss that snow. You guys have fun with all of that. I do like the pictures though. I could sit and look at snow for hours in those pictures.

here's some more pics from yesterday, of course all the work is burried this morning ;-)
thanks for the pictures, Mary! my wife and i are heading to Lake Linden at the end of this month for a wedding. she has never been up there and it's been 20 years since i've seen a winter up there (14 since i've been back). this will give her a good idea of what to expect! i can't wait. i've spent too many years on the wrong side of the bridge.

The fresh snow coating everything is beautiful, but it can coat something other than my driveway. yesterday was a perfect winter day.

BobG: I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and Mary fixed it for me, essentially it involves the NAME field when you set up an album. No spaces allowed as follows:
Name (required) The name of this item on your hard disk. It must be unique in this album. Only use alphanumeric characters, underscores or dashes.
When you click on your posted link the + sign translates to %2B and throws things off. Edit your album NAME field replacing the space with a dash or underscore. Dick B.

Great bunchs of picture's. I just hope you get more snow this year then you did last year.

You may get alot of snow in the CC but at least you don't have to worry about tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and other natural disasters. The snow melts and we can enjoy another wonderful summer in Bootjack. Get out your skis, toboggans, flying saucers, skates and sno-mobiles and enjoy the fresh air. Wish I was there to walk in the "winter wonderland".We have TWO FLAKES of snow here in Ohio and the weather forecasters go nuts. They are such rookies---don't know what real snow is. ----PS_--drive carefully. I can remember when the banks were so high, we had to put tennis balls on the car antennas so when we came to the stop signs, we could be seen. Good Olde days.

Dorothy, I just think Ohioans get excited over just a few inches because we wish we had more. But I do agree, that some Ohioans just don't know what REAL snow is....I love the snow...we have 2" from the big over nite storm!!! and they are predicting a few more inches with winter storm warnings out!!! Give me more of the St. Valentines day storm of earlier this year! But we were on TWC this morning...lots of wind and lake effect snow...
I went to school in Interlochen and loved the winters there. Funny thing is that we get snow days here in Ohio (for the kids) but up in Interlochen, the teachers got to school on snowmobiles, and we were told if they could make it to school, so could the students. so no extra days off for us! Of course we all lived on campus, but some of the teachers had quite a trek!
I'd love to be in Lake Linden grocery shopin at Louie's and gettin gas before we head to Betsy, what I wouldn't give to be there right now! Oh yeah, we'd probably have to stop by the hardware store as well, and check out the temp on the bank sign too!!!!!!!!!

It can keep on snowing as far as I'm concerned. I want lots of it to play in when I get home in a couple weeks. Snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowBLOWING....c'mon now, thats real fun.

Dorothy and Charp... i know what you mean about OH...especially here in Cincinnati. even the prediction of snow ("the white death") is enough to make people franticly run to the store and stock up on milk and bread. it's unbelieveable! if we get it durring the day, i just stay at work late and wait for all the crazy drives to get home before i head home. i can't believe how people drive down here. we had about 8" a couple of Christmases ago and it shut the city down for 2 days! usually if they predict snow, i expect cold rain. thats usually all we get.

Hi Here in SE Michigan we had, starting late Saturday afternoon: - light snow - freezing rain - rain...very hard rain with fog late in the afternoon ( a "gray-out" as I called it) - high winds and a sharp temperature drop
All of that resulted in extremely slippery roads this morning; much more so that an equivalent amount of powder snow would have made. There were 30-some accidents according to the radio in Washtenaw county this morning.
By s. dearing (Geebeed) on Monday, December 3, 2007 - 04:10 pm:
It's nearly the same way (few flakes of snow) in central Indiana as it is in Ohio. It seems as if there is merely a forecast of snow, we see the weather people out checking on supplies the county has to treat the roads. And what is hilarious is when they go out and measure a dusting of snow.
In the '50s and '60s, a half inch of snow was all it took to shut down Mt. Adams to cars. With only one or two dustings a year, no one remembered how to drive in it from one time to the next.
I'm glad to see this major snowfall up there. Now, if we can just get Lake Superior to come in level about two feet, things will be even better.

Hey thats not fair Yoopers ! Send us some of that precious Snow, we love the stuff down here too ! We only have about one inch downstate, the XC & Skate Skis are ready to hit them trails !! At least Grayling is only couple hours drive, they have plenty of snow.

Now that is more like it! That's the way it was in Dec when I was growing up. Last night we had tons of rain all night long. If it had happpened tonight we would have had a good snow. Deep freeze tonight. I love seeing snow,it is so beautiful.
