The Central Church hasn't changed much in over a century, certainly not in the past 8 years since this shot was taken.

By the way, for those who have been requesting to order the Pasty Cam 2008 calendar by itself (without pasties), you can follow this link: click here. And here is a little secret just for serious Pasty Cam Watchers: Enter the number of calendars you're purchasing (1,2,3, etc.) On the form you will notice a field for "priority code", just like those big city websites. Only, if you enter your Pasty Cam screen name there (like mine is "chopper"), you will receive an extra calendar FREE when you order one or more. Can't beat the price :o)

Good Morning everyone, I'm happy to be in the UP finally. Not so happy that Heikki Lunta stole my garbage can yesterday, totally missing when I got home from work! Do they sell tethers for those things?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 - 11:19 am:

I've heard of "tether-ball" before, but never tether-can; could be a new Yooper sport!!

My hubby & I got married in that Central church 14 years ago. My husband's family has a camp in Central, the one right before the church. We thought it would be nice to be married there because the area is so beautiful & serene. And Rick & his family had started going there since he was a little boy. We married the day before their Annual church service on the last Saturday in July. We couldn't have chosen a more memorable site to exchange our vows.
The services there are very nice & the minister always includes the little children in the service. At one of them he came in with balloons for each one of the kids. You should have seen their happy faces.

Hello Cheryl, I had the pleasure of being at the Annual church service when I was with Kathy in the late seventies. I very much so enjoyed the friendship and the memory lives with me still today. Such a memorable site indeed.

Looking at the cams for the bridge ect. up there make me glad to be here in Tennessee, where it is a nice day above sixty with no snow in the forecast. The little bit of snow we get comes at times to make me feel happy long enough, until it melts hours later. In the five years I been here never saw snow leftover from the day before. I am thinking one of these Christmas Days to have truck loads of snow shipped in here enough to fill the yard 3 ft.deep, and rent toboggans with a cover charge at the front gate just to view, pictures with your camera $2.00 mine $5.00 Down here they call chook's toboggan's. Go figure? Hey,I could sell G.B.Packers chook's to keep head warm, and they can take the toboggans home with them.

Does anyone else love the singing at the Central Mine Methodist Church Annual Reunion Services?

Wilfred Holman, my grandfather, used to sing at the services when I was very little.
My great-grandfather used to work in the Central Mine.
Helen Holman Smith, my mother, and I would attend the reunion services when we could.
I was last able to attend the reunion service in 2000 and 2004 when I was visiting "home-the Copper Country" from New Zealand where I now live.
Many thanks to those that help to keep the Central Mine Methodist Church Annual Reunion going each year!

It's with deep sadness that I write that one of my dear friends, Pat Mitchell from Laurium & Gratiot Lake who belonged to the Central Church Choir just passed away on November 16,2007. She had belonged to both for many years & she had such a beautiful voice. She had been ill for the past few years.I'm sure she is singing with the choir in heaven & they are now enjoying her lovely voice. She had attended every service even through her illness though she could no longer sing. She certainly will be missed by all.
