A peaceful scene at Dollar Bay 8 years ago, between the windy Autumn days and before to water surface hardened.

I always miss it!! What an opposite to the surf on the Big One. I love both site's pictures. It shows the contrast that can evolve in just a few miles.

Sharon Smith has posted some "must see" pictures of a very wild Lake Superior on her recent journal!!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - 07:56 am:

For those unfamiliar with Sharon's journal, you may access her pictures ate:

Sharon's pictures are awesome, picking up some of the November storm anger of Mother Superior. :-)

Paulwebbtroll, my thoughts exactly!

While I love to see the power of a storm and its effect on the Big Lake, I prefer calm waters. Calm waters are more peaceful and relaxing to me. :-)

"water surfaced hardened"

Funny !!
Now there is a term I dont thunk I ever heard before. Wont be long and I'll be out fishing on the ICE.
The rants and on here sure have quieted down since the new Topic Area was created. But because no audience there, no current posts either ??

Good morning! Congratulations Marianne!

I prefer the rolling waves to the calm of the smaller lakes. I could just sit and watch it for hours, whereas with the smaller ones, I get bored with it. However, all of the photos are beautiful!

I am ready for that, I need my ice skates.

Thanks Marianne. Great shots, Sharon.

Hello! Well beautiful autumn picture..quite as here our Finn landscapes!

By Sharon I. Smith (Sharons) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - 11:40 am:

Thanks, everyone. I sat on the bumper of my car and watched until my face froze over. I must have been 100 yards from the shore, but I kept getting spray on my glasses. It's the one disadvantage of not living right on the big lake...but I like my view, too...

I might say that if the sound (like a freight train right outside the window) was any indication, the actual peak waves were during the night, as usual, which was so dark nobody could see anything.

Water surface hardened -- you must mean the water will unthaw. Figure that one out!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - 01:16 pm:

You guys. Water surface hardened, while a different way to say it, makes perfectly good sense. Especially now, when you get just a very thin coating of ice on top of the water. Water surface hardened. You bet, it does!

By paul (Pungvait) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - 02:15 pm:

marianne - don't you mean "youse guys"

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - 02:22 pm:

Yes, Paul P, I did mean "youse guys". :-)

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - 02:29 pm:

give her a break, Paul, she's trying. It wasn't Ya'll this time!

By Snowman (Snowman) on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 - 05:10 pm:

I bet there's some good fishing in tranquil waters like that. That reminds me of a little story;

Three blondes are sitting by the side of a river holding fishing poles with the lines in the water. A Game Warden comes up behind them, taps them on the shoulder and says, "Excuse me, ladies, I'd like to see your fishing licenses."
"We don't have any." replied the first blonde.
"Well, if your going to fish, you need fishing licenses." said the Game Warden.
"But officer," replied the second blonde, "we aren't fishing. We all have magnets at the end of our lines and we're collecting debris off the bottom of the river."

The Game Warden lifted up all the lines and, sure enough, there were horseshoe magnets tied on the end of each line. "Well, I know of no law against it," said the Game Warden, "take all the debris you want." And with that, the Game Warden left.
As soon as the Game Warden was out of sight, the three blondes started laughing hysterically. "What a dumb Fish Cop," the second blonde said to the other two,"doesn't he know that there are steelheads in this river?!"
