Good Morning All!!!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 07:19 am:

Good Morning, Everyone, from rainy mid-Michigan. It is supposed to rain almost all day here, and then possible severe weather this evening. My two little dogs just came in, drenched, from their first morning trip outside. They are not very happy about that.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 07:41 am:

Morning from sun shiny, warm 80 degrees eastern Iowa! No, not really, I am dreaming, it's 50 degrees and raining.

By s. dearing (Geebeed) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 08:36 am:

Good Morning from soggy (and still raining) central Indiana.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 10:11 am:

Good morning to all. Up early this morning, Deb? Congrats on that Early Bird. It is sunny in N/W IL at present, but it has been raining and storms are predicted.
It will be a dark afternoon at Katiaire Kennels as we have made the decision that our 8 yr old Airedale, Poppy, is losing her battle with cancer. Two weeks ago she was a healthy, happy girl. She had a complete exam with blood work in Aug and was determined to be in excellent shape. Then this hit out of the blue. Just shows one how fast things can change and how fragile life can be. Sorry to ramble on, but this is a tough one!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 10:24 am:

Kathy...so sorry to learn of Poppy's health! I too, having Scotties for over 20 yrs. have come to the health issues of cancer in them as well. Each one has had a different type of cancer. Seems like Terriers are just prone to cancer, but I just can't help loving that bold and fiesty Terrier disposition that they have! I also have a 10 1/2 yr. old Dobie that I know his healthier days are behind him at this point. Sending warm thoughts your way!

By k j (Kathiscc) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 11:00 am:

Dobes have a disposition much like a Terrier. They are clowns as well. ( "To my Airedale, it's all a joke" is on one of the paintings we have.) They reason and they laugh. The thinking dogs.
We are not doing much laughing here today. I just can't believe it is happening this fast. This is a bolt out of the blue. She's only 8. That is not old enough!

By Snowman (Snowman) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 11:04 am:

For Poppy:

Oh noble beast
With soulful eyes
Unquestioning in trust
And forgiving of lies.

Your loyal heart
Eternally sound
A steadfast friend
The best I’ve found

I’ll share my home
You’ll share your heart
Nothing will ever
Keep us apart.

What a sweet tribute to Poppy...I'm sure all pet lovers know exactly what you're talking about. Well said.

By Matt Karhu (Matt_k) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 06:04 pm:

I've been pondering the recent comments about people suffering with ailments, injuries, etc. Now there are comments about pets suffering with ailments. The poem cheered me up. Hopefully there will be mostly cheerful postings tomorrow.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 06:22 pm:

If there is a better thing about a pet with a terminal disease, the owner takes it upon themselves to end the suffering and let their beloved pet(s) be put down humanely and with dignity. I have done that so many times holding my Scotties, horses, and even cows, in my arms as they go to sleep. Again to Poppy's family, my condolences and thoughts are with you!

By k j (Kathiscc) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 06:27 pm:

Thank you all so much! It really helps to know others support what we have done, what we had to do. It just never gets any easier, you know?
Sorry to put such a down cast on the day. Tomorrow will undoubtedly be a better day!

Or,someone like me could write something to spark a Debate?Like taxes. The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.

The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 1025) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.

The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

Abolishes the IRS
Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding

Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
Allows American products to compete fairly
Reimburses the tax on purchases of basic necessities
Enables retirees to keep their entire pension
Enables workers to keep their entire paycheck

Kathy P.
I'm so sorry about your pet. It's one of the hardest things we ever have to do, isn't it? I've done it so many times and it never gets any easier. We're thinking about you guys and Poppy.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 08:18 pm:

Two sure things in life today; Death and Taxes.

Good bye Poppy.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 08:22 pm:

So sorry to hear of your dogs illness. We have lost several cats and it really hurts.

Well I just have to give 3 cheers for Dollar Bay! Our home growing up was across the street from there. A nice town to grow up in.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Thursday, October 18, 2007 - 09:03 pm:

Thank you all for your kind thoughts today. Deciding when to end your pet's suffering is truly the most difficult and yet important decision an owner can make. And no matter how many times one goes through it, it never gets any easier. And thank you Snowman for the poem, which will become part of Poppy's memory book.

TAXES...Wow what a heavy subject. The FairTax Act has real possibilities. I have long wondered why we couldn't just have a flat rate. Everyone pays the same % with no deductions; however, I suppose there could be games played with the actual gross income. So the FairTax might just be that...Fair.

Then we need someone to tackle the property tax issue. Any ideas???

For sure. There have been some really great pictures. Good to have you back, Mikie. Are the computer problems still related to the grandkids playing?
