That's one gorgeous picture. I can't quite place where it is. Is it the
road from Chassell to Painesdale?

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 06:13 am:

It is very much so one gorgeous picture.Good Morning.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 07:07 am:

Good morning! Another brisk morning here in central MN. Please bring back summer, though I am loving the fall pictures.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 07:51 am:

Good morning from a somewhat more tolerable Houston, at least weather-wise :P

I am guessing this is along Traprock Valley Rd. north of Lake Linden, looking west towards Laurium. If I'm right, somewhere in those woods is Natural Wall.....

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 08:07 am:

Clicking above the picture tells you it is the Gay-LacLabelle Road going towards Lake Linden. I do agree with Maija, though, that it looks like the Chassell area. The Chassell area has to be one of the most scenic areas around, so many beautiful hills there, and the colors are glorious.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 08:13 am:

Wow! That picture is AWESOME! I would love to be there with a picnic lunch...the kind we used to make as kids and head out into the daisy-filled field. We would make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and take a mayo jar filled with kool-aid and then make daisy chains. If only....

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 08:24 am:

Marsha is right, that is what you need to do! Click on the eight years ago above the picture.I did not know that.I learnt something. I went the long way around back to the archives to find nothing but the picture. This way is better, however how can one get to what was posted back then? Going to Townsend,TN for a meeting today and will spend time with Barbie as she will be comming around the mountain with a banjo on her knee.

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 08:26 am:

Cindy, what an awesome memory. Sounds a lot like the picnics we used to take as kids. Boy the PBJ's sure tasted good back then. Grape Kool-Aid was my fave with a PBJ.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 08:33 am:

David, you sure bring out the sunshine on this site! You always put a big smile on my face.

The rest of you have me craving a PBJ, ahhhh, the good old days.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 08:44 am:

Good Thursday Morning to All! I'm guilty of eating PBJ sandwiches and having grape Kool-Aid yet today! Good things can last forever!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 09:09 am:

I'll admit to drinking Kool Aid, I make the popsicles for the kids too! That picture does have the look of Chassell, my uncles place is between Houghton and Chassell and that could almost be the backside of the hill in Houghton. Only shows everywhere up there is beautiful.

By joanne sherick (Shedoesnails) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 09:31 am:

Thanks for the beautiful picture.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 10:36 am:

Lorelei: You sure appreciate the pleasure your senses can give you as evidenced on this page and the preceding page. I'm trying to avoid the word "sensual"! The best spot to enjoy the smells of autumn is the Silver River Falls north of L'anse (not the one in the Keweenaw). Actually, the smell is wonderful there all year long, and it's one of the first things I notice when I get out of the car. Plus, the falls are running strong now after all the rain you've had (and seem to be still having).

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 12:04 pm:

Marsha,
I am not sure that I have ever been to the Silver River Falls. If I have, it's been since I was a wee one. My family went on Sunday drives all the time when my brother and I were young. I think I will have to check this place out. Is it hard to find?

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 12:25 pm:

Lorelei: I bet you passed it on the way to the Aura Jamboree! You go east on Skanee Rd. and it's before you get to Townline Rd. where the Jamboree is. Watch closely for the sign, as it is one of those smallish dark brown wooden ones. The road to the falls is on the right. When you go down the falls road, at one point it'll divide and you want to keep to the left. If you go straight, it'll just take you to another part of the river before the falls. The road back to the falls is not very long and the falls are quite accessible, even with my bad knees. Just one spot where you have to take a big step down. Be sure to have a camera with you! Hope to have time to post my latest pictures soon. You can access my previous ones in the gallery at Marsha Galbraith. They'll make you want to go there right away!

Somebody in a post yesterday made a point, although a long one, about reading the "Acceptable use policy" regarding the "Chat" clause. Prime example are some of the posts above. Some people just can't take a hint. A glaring one at that. And please don't tell me to just skip posts that shouldn't be there in the first place thank you..........

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 07:18 pm:

Or maybe we should all just go back to being more tolerant of one another, and just be nice! We are here on Pasty because of our love of the UP and Keweenaw. No one is superior or "more equal" to anyone else, yet a handful of people have tried to stand up and act like they are the chosen few, the "regulars" but they really mean "the in crowd". Is Pasty an exclusive club, or is it open to the public? Lately the "in crowd" has made some feel totally unwelcome on Pasty, yet they claim they are not doing that. Well, there are a number of others who are also regulars that you all have stepped on the toes of. Harsh treatment of others is not called for here. You know, when I was a kid, growing up, the last thing my mom would tell me on the way out the door to go to school was not to do my best or be good in class or anything else (she did not have to tell me that). The last thing she told me was to "Be Nice". Sadly, some here have forgotten their manners, and to above all else, to honestly be nice to everyone. There is no reason to be harsh or to otherwise scold people who are trying to be nice.

I went back and looked at the link that was supplied recently. The only real difference between the messagegs that day and messages of late is that the picture that day was of M-26 under construction, and the topic of the day was how that construction was changing the composition of the area. In addition, KMart & Wally World were putting some of the small businesses, particularly in downtown Houghton, out of business. If a picture like that were posted today, the messages would center on that again, but pictures can not always be on that. I hope Copper Country has a future. We should look to the future, too, not just dwell on the past. Talking about the past is ok, as long as there is talk about the present or future, too. I'm am sorry this got a little long.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 08:07 pm:

I'm so confused! I can't figure out who's complaining about what. Anyway, if you're complaining about me, my posts were meant to entice EVERYONE to the Silver River Falls. Now I'll go ease my headache by listening to the problems of the crew on Gray's Anatomy.

By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 09:12 pm:

Wow, I am getting to the point where I don't feel comfortable posting on here anymore. I've always enjoyed the Pasty Cam, but lately it's has been just ridiculous. That's my opinion. Good night everyone.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 09:32 pm:

Grace, that's where several of us are, and that should not be.

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Thursday, October 11, 2007 - 10:10 pm:

I agree Grace.

What is the Acceptable Use Policy for the Pasty Cam?

Over the years our daily feature, the "Pasty Cam", has evolved into a discussion surrounding the day's picture and related topics. We encourage you to use your real name and email address so that you can be in touch with friends and old acquaintances you meet on the site.
What'sUP" to post other items of interest, such as community event's, suggestions, and general conversation.
Comments you post are for the entire Pasty Cam community. Avoid addressing them to one individual, which can appear to be a "chat". If you wish to bring your comment to the attention of an individual, email them directly.

On any daily "Cam Notes" page, limit your postings to 2 messages, unless you are the photographer responding to feedback about your photo.
Are you wondering where you read this before?
There is no reason to feel un-comfortable or confused. The foundation is secure now. It just had afew cracks that needed fixin.Just post items of interest in your general conversation.Nobody should be that timid. Thanks to the many who e-mailed me on the positive side. I been doing my best to keep up in writing you all back, even the two negitive one's, where in one case I was called a Drunk, and accused of undressing Him/Her in public. It is where you should be! Don't feel guilt if you are playing by the rules. Now this is interesting, even if I say so myself.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Friday, October 12, 2007 - 03:50 am:

WOW, there has been some stimulating posts...and hopefully now that the air has been cleared we can all feel comfortable about posting and look forward to visiting our site. I don't think anyone should feel insulted nor take personally any of the comments made. When this site takes on the air of a chat room, others feel they are intruding on a private conversation. If we just keep our posts inclusive and relevant to our beloved UP, this site should remain healthy.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, October 12, 2007 - 07:31 am:

I am sorry, but I have seen nothing here that will make those who feel insulted, feel less insulted. There have been no apologies for the harshness from a few over the last number of days. There are real hurt feelings in a number of people as a result of this so-called clearing of the air. My words last night were twisted by a couple of people to make it look like I support their cause.

Pasty is supposed to be for everyone. Everyone should peacefully coexist. People should never be scolded like they have been, both directly and indirectly by a few people, over the last few days. And, some of those quoting the Acceptable Use Policy like they are so high and mighty, have done the same things they are crying foul about now, in the not so distant past, if my memory serves correctly. And, they think they have "cleared the air", so everything is hunky-doorey again. Not so fast...that is not true. They feel better, at the expense of hurting and intimidating others, no apologies, just do it their way.

As it is now, some are afraid to post and others are just flat out too hurt to post, after the lectures and public scoldings the last few days. That should never be. Everyone should be free to post without fear of being scolded.

They can have their "fun", their interests, while others can be comfortable using Pasty they way they have enjoyed using Pasty, they may just have to sort through a few more posts. Be Nice! Getting along does not mean scolding others and hurting their feelings, and then claiming there is no reason to have hurt feelings. There are no chosen few, no "the regulars', at least not in the sense that it was suggested yesterday.

I, for one, enjoy hearing from our members in the morning, about how they are and what their weather is where they are, etc. That should not be taken away because a few do not perceive that as being "fun". That is just plain unfriendly, not nice!

Is it safe to come back into the "water"?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, October 12, 2007 - 08:06 am:

Snowmen "melt" in the water. I thought that you of all "people" should know that. LOL

By Trb0013 (Trb0013) on Friday, October 12, 2007 - 08:11 am:

dressing-down is a sound scolding. Not undressing in public.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, October 12, 2007 - 07:08 pm:

A sincere thank you for that info above, when my monitor fizzed on me it lost sound.

Now this is going to be a very un-interesting post for some. I don't know how to put it in a nice way?I don't want to have this post removed for being sassy. However, the overwelming results of the survey (with enough data recieved and slowing some now) shows there is one major complaint by the majority. And only a small number of minor ones.So it has been sugested we should form a Focus Group to handle the major one.
This is our Pasty Family problem. The best way to deal with it has to come from within.Maybe a Poll could be taken to find the right person to head up a Focus Group? Not me! I would be considered to be bias.Use this page to post your thoughts,as not to disturb the other pages, and this way those of interest can come back. Thanks once more,i did my best to get back with just about all who use this site, one on one,my server worked well.
