It doesn't seem to matter if it's sunny, cloudy or downright nasty outside, Lake Superior always seems to grab your attention and hold you mesmerized. Whether the Big Lake is smooth as glass or churned up like in these photos from John W. Anderson, you can still see beauty in her depths and moods. With November just around the corner, we can brace ourselves for this Great Lake to take on the Gales of November, when it will be displaying all it's fury and glory.

Great pictures! I especially like the second one, with its shroud of fog, an element of mystery to it, and it is framed by beautiful trees! Great job, John. Thank you, John and Mary!

Wow, how absolutely gorgeous. Makes me sorry I've only seen Superior in the Summer. Someday....

The second shot is great. It looks like an ocean cost in some remote part of the world. Lucky for us it is in our own backyard, so to speak.

That second picture is why I say that the shores of the Big Lake are as beautiful and foreboding as any shoreline, anywhere! Plus it has the many shipwrecks to prove it.

Fantastic pictures of Lake Superior today! Hubby and I have seen Lake Superior alive and wild during a lake effect snowstorm, an awesome sight to behold!

While I really like the first picture, I love the second and have saved it to our screensaver slide show.

Is that fog or rain? I love the big lake!

I gazed at the second photo while on hold with customer service, and felt very peaceful. Thanks for the 'time out'.

One of the reasons we like to visit UP in the late fall is seeing the Lake behave as shown in these fabulous pictures. Thank you!

It's the time of year when I can no longer wear my "Cooler By the Lake" sweatshirt! And when it is cooler by the lake, I'm too warm to wear it!

Marsha I'm with ya! Broke out the winter coat and tossed it in the wash last weekend. Zipper self destructed so am currently looking for a new one. my Mom told me just to use the Snaps, she has been in Tennessee too long!

Although I grew up on the north shore of the Big Lake, I consider the Houghton area my second home. Just wish I could convince the wife to move back. Oh well these pics just re-enforce why I love the area so much. I could spend hours just walking the shoreline. Wonder if I could get paid for that? Secret beach walker? Hmmmm?

Whew! That's good, cuz there a few things I will do differently today. I'm glad for the second chance.

Is this going to be like the movie "Groundhogs day"? cause my tuesday has been way too much like a Monday.
By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 - 01:10 pm:
Wow, thinking that at the same time.

That first photo reminds me of the Lake Michigan shore in Wilderness State Park just west of the Mighty Mac. I always get a kick out of seeing sandy beaches on Lake Superior. I was over 40 years old when I saw my first!
