Welcome to our new Pasty cammers, Cindy from downunder, & Gary.
Gary, my son is a current MTU student. I asked him about the color UP there this weekend, and he said that he preferred it last week, actually, when there was more green (which is a color, too) along with the reds, oranges, and yellows. :-) I am with my sons. My husband likes it farther gone, so I guess different strokes for different folks.
From others, FYI, MTU Family Weekend last year was the equivalent of next weekend on the calendar, I think. Anyway, there was a big winter storm, complete with Winter Storm Warning, for the drive up there for many. One parent I know of spun his truck out on a bridge north of Gaylord, I think it was. Another family I know of spun their car out across traffic near Marquette. Both spinouts were due to white out conditions on the way up to Houghton during that storm. Thank heavens no one was injured in either event. The snow melted fairly quickly, once the sun came out, though. So you never know what you're going to run into when you go up there in October, as you probably know.

Deb, I have so many memories of the Copper Country and may very well take off and explore some of it on my own this year. It's probably been about 15 years since getting even to Houghton. Most of our camping over the years has been in the triangle of land between Marquette, Big Bay, and Lanse. Some of you may be familiar with the Big Bay area and the overall history of that area. Of course the Silver Lake Basin, Yellow Dog River (and plains), and the highest point in Michigan just inside of the Baraga County line plays a big role in all of this. Anyway, the Keweenaw is drawing me this year.
