Welcome to the real Chatter Box cafe as it was seen eight years ago on these pages.

In case you haven't heard, our colleague Kevin Musser passed away this week. Kevin was the webmaster of CopperRange.org, and a frequent contributor to our Sunday Shoebox Memories. Like Dan Urbanski, who also passed away at a young age, Kevin had a passion for the beauty and history of the U.P., and we were blessed to have them as a part of our extended Pasty Central family.

Good Morning, Everyone, from mid-Michigan, where the storms are supposed to roll in later this morning! Happy Friday! Congratulations on your Early Bird, Paulwebbtroll!

Sorry to hear of the passing of Kevin Musser. Great web site he put together. Hate to think about it so early, but I wonder if someone with some of his interest and talent will take it over. It is a great resource.

Charlie, I take it that you are referring to the other Chatter Box Cafe on "A Prarie Home Companion"?

By Dave Zelisse (Davedatroll) on Friday, September 7, 2007 - 08:32 am:

G'morning Charlie-
Bummer about Kevin Passing away... is there an obit link you could share with us?

Kevin was THE authority on the Copper Range RR and on Railroads in the Copper Country. We'd chat back and forth about some aspect Railroading up there a couple of times a year. He was a great model builder too...

By dlp (Babyseal) on Friday, September 7, 2007 - 08:49 am:

I cut and pasted Kevin's obit link to from the Daily Mining Gazette. I hope it works.

Kevin will be greatly missed. He was very instrumental in Painesdale Mine & Shaft also. I remember the day I met him at the shafthouse to let him in to take pictures. He wanted to build the shafthouse to scale for his Copper Range model. He continued to visit us every time he was in the UP, often bringing his family & friends. We have kept in tough throughout the years. I spoke with his wife and she isn't sure what will happen with his website. Hopefully someone can be found that can take over. She did state she intended to keep his website up for the time being.
My sympathies go out to Kevin's family. Seems true, the good die young.

Good morning everybody! I got to sleep in today cuz I don't start work until 10. Have to work 'til 7 but that's okay. Work keeps my mind occupied.

Sorry about Kevin. I don't know much about him but it's always sad when somebody dies too young.

You all have a great day! We had quite the rain last night. Don't have to water today. Woo-Hoo!!

Good Morning, I'll keep Kevins family in my prayers also. Turns out they live near me (Hamburgs next town over). Small world.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, September 7, 2007 - 08:00 pm:

Hello, Sorry about Keven, been off the internet for some time since grandkids did something to freeze my computer up. Hope everyone is doing good will be back as soon as I can get my brother the famous Dr. John to repair my computer.

By Kathy P. (Katiaire) on Friday, September 7, 2007 - 09:49 pm:

Mikie, glad it is only your computer ailling and not you or Precious. Have missed your posts and wondered what was up.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Friday, September 7, 2007 - 09:59 pm:

Hei Mikie, Mimi and I have been off the internet, too, for a few days. The modem must have taken a jolt from lightning before I could get it disconnected 'bout a week ago. My techie friend installed a new one and this thing just percolates along again. :o) Hei hei.
TGIF = Thank God I'm Finnish!

Just had my computer fixed today too. What's with this? How
come so many of us had problems with our computers at the same
time?

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Friday, September 7, 2007 - 11:53 pm:

Mikie, I have been worried about you & Precious for over a week now, since we had not heard from you. I was ready to say something tonight, when you showed up! It's good to hear from you. We missed you!

As for computer problems, I've been dealing with my husband's computer a bunch lately, particularly the last couple of weeks. I now have permission to send it back for a replacement because it has had to have multiple repairs. (Since my oldest son went back to Mich Tech, I'm back to being the computer geek of the household.)

Kenjamimi, I'm glad you got yours fixed. If you had a lightning strike, you're lucky it only killed your modem. I know people who have lost whole computers to a lightning strike through their phone line/modem. And, people have been struck by lightning while typing on their computer keyboards. When there is a thunderstorm, it is always better to be safe than sorry, & disconnect from electrical power & phone connections. :-) (I continue to use my laptop, but disconnected from power, etc. I connect to our broadband, through our wireless router, so it's not an issue for me, generally, other than the cable modem & router.)
