What a great idea Marsha Galbraith had with this shot looking out her picture window on Keweenaw Bay. Now when she's not there, she can still enjoy the view, including a hummingbird on its way to the feeder! Don't you just love that she has binoculars at the ready on the windowsill, along with a bird carving and several small boats. Just about the perfect accompaniments for any cottage window! Looking further into Marsha's album, I also spotted the second photo above, which gives us a better perspective of what you actually see out the window...how many of you would rather be out there enjoying the tranquillity with the gentleman by the swing? I know... silly question! :->

Good Morning
Seeing that Hummingbird comeing up toward that feeder is cool. We have been haveing about 50 or 60 around here feeding all day long. Nothing out there for them so they come to the feeders.
We have 5 and it keeps us busy keeping them filled.
I like that bottom picture with the trees and looking out over the lake.
Seen on the weather tonight that its a little on the cool side up there.

Marsha--What a splendid view you and your husband have from
your window. Hummingbirds sure are attracted to the color red.
This past summer, we had frequent visits to our blue star flag at
one of the windows at my father's cottage. I believe the little bird
visited the flag because of its red border. Of course, I thought it
was a nice tribute to our son who is serving in Iraq.

Marsha, I can tell that you have a very cozy place on the Keweenaw Bay. I can just imagine enjoying my first cup of coffee for the day on that swing. Nice view!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 07:40 am:

Oh, to have that view daily!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 07:52 am:

Marsha, you're a very lucky woman. To wake up to that every day would be wonderful.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 08:12 am:

Woo hoo! It's my picture! I haven't had one on here in years now. And that's my hubby, who spends a lot of time on that swing! It is a great view. Got a call a couple days ago that our main door blew open in a big wind storm. The neighbor has it closed, but not latched. Oh well, we'll be up in a few weeks.

For MsKatie, Paulinda, and anyone else that was curious:
I replied to your questions from yesterdays (9/13) post; have a look.

We used to have a few hummers at our feeders in Red Jacket, but nothing like the amount and variety of hummers we have in Texas. Still, I'd trade the amount of birds for THAT view every morning anyday; what a lucky lady you are Marsha......

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 08:47 am:

I would be happy with that view also, would spend quite a bit of time on that swing.

Yesterday, Paulinda asked about the Delaware Mine. I
would like to say that it is one of the best sites to visit in
the entire Copper Country. Because the tour is self
guided, you can take your time and read the
information carefully and completely. don't forget to
meet the pet skunk. The finest tour is the Calumet
Theatre, a real must-see if you come up.

You have a realy beautiful view at your place there Marsha and your Hubby. Many say your lucky, and I will use that term too,as I feel lucky to have the view of mountains. But luck most likely didn't have much to do with it,more like SISU.Binoculars is a must have near by with a view like that! Hummingbirds are icing on the cake, along with other perks.I miss mine when they leave.I have names for them. They let me get as close to them as from my elbow to my finger as they perch on the feeder,so I can tell who's who.Greenly just adores all from the Grandaughters to the dogs as (she i assume)entertains us.Another one looks as if it diped it's beak into a paint can.We love to see them get fat this time of year to burn up where ever they fly off to,which is comming soon as the nights are getting cooler, and others are showing up from further North.I use the powder that makes a quart and turns red. I heard if you use sugar it should be from cane not beet.My friend Russ may have more to say on Hummingbirds for us all to read. They do like red. Barbie has a red M&M figure on her suv antenna they go for.But you should not use stuff like Koolaid or food coloring to make it red.Am I right Russ?

By Mr. Bill (Mrbill) on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 07:37 pm:

Save your money on purchased mix, and the "hummers" from ingesting the FD&C food coloring; use straight table sugar.

We've done it for years. Discard it from the feeder when is looks cloudy. We refrigerate the bulk mixed solution until needed at re-fill time.

Marsha, I love the pictures and the ones in your album.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 10:09 pm:

Thank you JH from up there in Tuscola Co.for the links. They were better then any other I have seen. Has been awhile since I been on Mertz Hwy.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 11:13 pm:

Your welcome, David. I think I got the links when someone else posted them on this site.
When you say Mertz Hwy. are you referring to M-24?
Back to the hummingbirds, I just use 1/4 cup cane sugar to 1 cup tap water. We are still getting them on the feeders here.

By Annie (Cabinfive) on Friday, September 14, 2007 - 11:52 pm:

I've used that same sugar/water ratio recipe and it keeps the
hummingbirds visiting my feeder all day down here in Illinois. This
is the first year hummingbirds have visited my balcony. What a
thrill!
Marsha definately has a little bit of heaven here on earth.
