ONTONAGON LABOR DAY FESTIVAL IS THIS WEEKEND WITH LOTS OF FESTIVITIES GOING ON ALL WEEKEND! COME AND JOIN IN THE FUN THIS WEEKEND!
SCHEDULE AS FOLLOWS:
ONTONAGON -- The 50th anniversary of the Ontonagon Labor Day festival will feature activities from Friday, Aug. 31, through Monday, Sept. 3.
FRIDAY, Aug. 31:
5-6 p.m. -- Community picnic at Riverfront Park. Free pop, hot dogs and chips, sponsored by the Village of Ontonagon.
6 p.m. -- Lawnmower races at Ontonagon Marina. Registration begins at oval track. Race begins immediately after the community picnic.
6 p.m. -- Author Henry Kisor at the Theater of Performing Arts, on his books with Ontonagon settings.
7 p.m. -- Football game. Ontonagon meets Baraga at Bob Carlson Memorial field, Parker Ave.
9 p.m. to midnight -- Community dance at village recreation building. Music by Borderline Band with Mike Urbis. Refreshments available. Cost $3 or two for $5
SATURDAY, Sept. 1:
8:30 a.m. -- Transportation to bridge walk location from U Save.
9 a.m. -- Bridge Walk from far end of bridge into business district for Maxwell Street Days.
10 a.m. -- Memory Walk. Registration at Maple Manor.
8 a.m. -- Laborfest Auto Show registration.
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- Auto show.
9 a.m. -- Superior Shoot-Out, Ontonagon Golf Club.
9 a.m. to 4 p.m. -- Maxwell Street Day, sidewalk sales, drawings, lip sync contest, rock/paper/scissors contest, dance, food booths, Rotary log race.
7 p.m. -- Adventure Mountain Stock Car races hot laps, racing at 7:30 p.m.
SUNDAY, Sept. 2
7 to 11 a.m. -- Pancake Breakfast, Holy Family Church Hall.
8 to 9 a.m.. -- Registration for Ed Hansen Memorial Run 5K and 10K.
10 a.m. -- Ed Hansen Run, followed by awards at fire hall.
Noon -- Float assembly and judging along Parker Ave.
2 p.m. -- Labor Festival Parade, six bands, floats, parade marshal Ontonagon's two oldest businesses, Hawley Lumber and Cane Funeral Home. Drum Corps concert at reviewing stand after the parade.
4 to 10 p.m. -- Communityfest, at recreation center. Music, food, beverages. 50-50 Labor Festival drawing at 8 p.m., need not be present to win.
MONDAY, Sept. 3
12:30 p.m. -- Kiddies Parade assembly at Lake Superior Credit Union.
1 p.m. -- Hank Thompson Memorial Kiddies Parade, River Street. Prizes for every child entered. Walking, small pulling, large pulling, bikes. No motorized or battery type floats. Kids games to follow, directed by Ontonagon Knights of Columbus.

Wow! Big doin's in my alma mater. Sounds like great fun. Too bad I'll be down here under da bridge. Everyone, please have a safe and fun holiday weekend. Don't forget to THINK before you DRINK...can you afford to be without a driver's license??? Hmmmm....?

Sounds like every little town in the UP is now having a car show on the weekend including Ontonagon tomorrow, which I think is great; makes me wish I was back in the UP to partake in a few.......
