There are many inviting paths in the U.P.

We featured one of them near Canyon Falls on this day back in 1999.

Have a great day everyone!

Gee! This is unusually early! I'm usually still here at my desk at 1:44 working! But I fell asleep ! Oh well, maybe another time! Congrats Pennie, and a good evening/morning/day to all!

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 02:59 am:

Good early morning everyone.

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 04:46 am:

Good morning! Hump Day!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 06:15 am:

I feel like a laggard when compared with the real early birds today!
Both pictures today sure are wonderful--as they are pretty much
everyday.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 06:39 am:

Good Morning, Everyone!

Good morning everybody! Geez Pennie, hope there's not any sickness at your place for you to be up so late (early?). I love Canyon Falls too. It's a great place to picnic and hike.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 07:24 am:

Headin U.P. today to make sales calls until Friday, is it really work when you're in the U.P.?

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 07:57 am:

Hey Uncle Chuck, are sales calls in the U.P. your code for "frolicking"?? ;-)

By s. dearing (Geebeed) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 08:05 am:

Good Morning!

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 08:10 am:

CAPT. PAUL- YOU BET!!!!!!!! LOL

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 09:22 am:

Has Baraga County received any appreciable amounts of rainfall since I left there Friday? The fire danger level at the DNR office was "extreme" then.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 09:46 am:

Good Morning, going to be hot and more storms tonight.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 10:18 am:

Aaahhh....halfway to the weekend. Woo hoo! And it's a long one...what could be better...I supposed if I was in the UP it would be better. But I sure don't like to be on the road during the big holiday weekends.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 10:22 am:

And just in time for the big weekend, gas went up 18 cents a gallon overnight. What a deal!!
Mr. Deb

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 11:09 am:

That's about par for the course, Mr Deb. The gas stations here always raise the prices about 20¢/gallon just before major holiday weekends.

Like Cindy, we don't go on the road for the big holiday weekends. There is too much traffic. (And that's assuming that I could travel, which I can't until this back of mine decides to heal.) :-)

For those who are traveling for the big weekend, I hope you all have safe travels and a good time, for this, the unofficial last big weekend of summer!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 11:10 am:

Oh, and Uncle Chuck: that's pretty clever timing, just happening to plan a business trip to the UP, just in time for the big weekend! :-)

Good comeback, Capt Paul, to Uncle Chuck.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 11:20 am:

Way to go Charlie! Mixing up the time you enter picture from eight years ago, to give the Night Owl's a chance to turn into a Early Bird. Youneaked up on it Pennie.A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. And you my friend Russ, when I saw this picture from eight years ago I right away thought it was your back yard! It's still morning so I can say 'Good Morning' from hot and sticky E.TN.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 12:16 pm:

Is anybody planning on heading up? I am since I need to decompress (my job is killing me). And my vacation was shattered by phone calls from downstate.

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 12:25 pm:

Hi
My outlook might be colored by the fact that I live and drive in SE Michigan, where traffic is heavy much of the time; but, I usually don't find the traffic too bad on Labor Day. Especially in recent years when a lot of school districts have already started school. I like stopping at the rest areas where volunteer organizations have the coffee & cookies.

Besides, stay downstate on a summer holiday?!? Nope.

By April Hughes (Ahughes798) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 02:42 pm:

Spent a lovely weekend in Daggett. It was my very first time in the U.P. I was so impressed by the friendliness of the people I met, and with the way everyone in the area seemed to care for and about their neighbors.

Thanks, Yoopers, I know I will be back soon! April

Two nice planes on AirportCam now but no ID on either one.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - 10:20 pm:

Eugenia, I looked in time to see the two twin-engine planes. I did not think to look for tail numbers. I looked again a couple of minutes later, and the front plane was gone. Then, I looked again about five minutes later, and the back plane was gone, and in its place was a new-looking twin engine jet.

I wonder what was going on up there with so many planes nice, twin engine planes active at the same time?
