The tradition of remembering our loved ones with a beautiful sunset continues, as we give honor to the memory of these good folks who have left us this month:
Cecile "CeCe" Pini Susan Harri Elmo Negro Forrest Olson Isabelle Audette Sister Mary Flora Barrette C.S.J. Our servicemen and women who gave their all for us
I write these notes today with a heavy heart. As most of you already know, I lost my Mother, CeCe Pini, this month. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, helping her to go peacefully, with dignity and grace. So many people have offered comfort and I want to thank you ALL.
Today's sunset was sent to me by Sue Haralson as a way to offer her sympathy. She was out kayaking on Torch Lake the evening my Mom died and snapped this photo. Her note to me said that as she watched the sun go down, she was thinking of my Mom, how this was her sunset and it was her job to capture it for me....Thank you Sue, it's beautiful!
Please bear with me, as I have to mention something about the other folks listed here above and offer our deepest sympathy to their family and friends also...
Susan Harri, who died in a recent car accident, was the 21 year old great-niece of our own "eye in the sky", Neil Harri. Susan would have been attending MTU this fall.
Elmo Negro, was the man behind the tower on top of the Cliff Drive near Phoenix. The Pasty Cam featured a number of photos of "Elmo's tower", along with quite a few great views from on top the tower. I spoke with Elmo once, to ask his permission to climb the tower. He was very gracious and accommodating.
Forrest Olson, was a well-liked Hancock High School Social Studies teacher and girl's basketball coach, who died after a long battle with cancer. Forrest loved his students and teaching was a high priority in his life, even after he became ill.
Isabelle Audette, was 105 years old and had been a midwife in the area, bringing many local children into this world, who are now grandparents themselves. She was an active outdoors woman, having hiked the Porcupine Mountains with her grandchildren a number of times. It would have been her 106th birthday today.
Sister Mary Flora Barrette, C.S.J., served our Lord for 72 years. I remember when she would come to Lake Linden for a visit, her smile always lit up her entire face!
Please feel free to share the names of loved ones and friends you'd like to remember.

Mary, I am so sorry you lost your mom. Losing one so dear to you is so hard. It is so hard to lose one or both parents. I lost my parents, my dad in 1985 and my mom in 1991. My dad briefly got to meet my oldest (5 months old) when he died. My mom never knew I was pregnant with my youngest. Time will make it so that you will remember the good times with a smile, and the not so good times will go back in your mind. I know that you will think about her with the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Those will be different without her. My thoughts and prayers are with you! Hugs to you!
Neil, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family on the loss of your great-niece, Susan! I'm really sorry she never got to attend Mich Tech. It is a great school; my son is a fifth year student there and loves it. So many young college students have died suddenly this year in accidents right before their school even started. Two from Saginaw Valley University in Saginaw died, in separate accidents. It really hits us in the heart, when those so young pass away suddenly!

This is for Suzanne Ringo Bell...the best friend of my wife, who actually introduced her, (my wife), to me. She was a great person, always laughing...a positive roll model...she died of cancer on Friday August 19, 2007 ... still smiling.

Marianne, That was one of the most touching tributes I have ever read. Thank you so much for your wonderful words of wisdom.
Neil, I met somebody out here who actually knew about Susan and your family. This last month I have come to realize that those of us who visit this site are not so far apart. My condolences to you.
Mary, there are no words for you that can express enough how I feel about you losing your mom and how strong you've been through it all. As if you weren't already going through enough with your nephew, Kevin, you also had to go and have all of this happen with your mom. You are a wonderful person and my heart still goes out to you.
I'd like to remember my grandmother, Irene Normand, who passed away on August 18, 1981. I still think about her all the time. Her sister also passed away a couple of months ago, leaving only one of her siblings. So, I'd also like to remember my great-aunt, who died a couple of months ago, but I just found out about it this past week.
Sue, thanks for the great picture for Mary's mom. I'm sure Mary will treasure it forever.

By Cheryl Rozman (Cotton) on Friday, August 31, 2007 - 11:55 am:
I remember my sister Janice Cundy Miller who died through domestic violence on March 31,1974. She was not only my sister but my best friend. I didn't get a chance to say "Good bye" to her. I remember my Dad Ransom Cundy who died on the Str Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior on November 10,1975. His life ended so suddenly that we didn't have a chance to say "Goodbye". I have only the memory of him waving goodbye to me a month earlier when I visited his boat in Two Harbors, Minnesota. I remember my Mother Betty (Cundy)Beaudoin who died on October 28,1990 from cancer. I did say "Good bye" to her & it was one of the hardest things to do. But I knew it was her time to be with Janice once again. I remember the three of them with a heavy heart. So everyone in pasty world who has a family, please love them & let them know how much they mean to you. You never know when they may be taken away from you. I feel sorry for all who have lost a loved one. Hold on to your memories. They are what helps you go on through the years.

Came home from work today and found my beloved elderly lab Grady lying on the floor, trembling and drooling. She had had a stroke. David Zender from Bay Pines Vet Clinic in Harbor Springs came and carried her outside, lay her on the grass and put her to sleep. I will scatter her ashes on Sturgeon Bay where we spent so many happy hours wading, swimming and playing fetch. Thanks, Grady, for a lifetime of friendship and loving. You are a very special dog, and the world was a happier place because of you.
By Grace M Wetton (Gmw) on Friday, August 31, 2007 - 09:41 pm:
Therese, so sorry to read about Grady. It's so hard to cope with the loss of a pet. Grady lived a long happy life thanks to you.

Therese, I am so sorry you lost your wonderful friend, Grady. So many times, our 4-legged friends are just like our children. I know that Grady will always hold a special place in your heart. I have lost a number of my 4-legged friends over the years, and they all have special places in my heart. I do hope that in time you will find another dog who will be special to you in its own ways.
