She stands proud at the entry to Eagle Harbor, sending out a guiding beacon so anyone needing a navigational point of reference can see through the fog. That's the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse. doing what she does best!! E. Neil Harri sure has access to some beautiful views, not only in the air, but on the land besides. He can just look out his window and see a sight like this every day. Well, maybe not EVERY day, since not all mornings start out with a little bit of fog, but we've had a few this past week. That's a sure sign that summer is waning and fall is on its way.

It was more than fog last night here in southeast Michigan, where we are visiting for the weekend. We were on I-75 near Clarkston when the destruction occurred in Fenton, which lost many trees and all power, with extensive wind damage to homes and businesses. The lightning last night was blinding.
Tonight we'll be at the golden tower of the Fisher Building in Detroit for a visit with Foster Braun on WJR's Internet Advisor sometime between 5pm - 7pm. You can catch it on the web at WJR.NET

We have a family reunion scheduled for the Fenton area today at noon.

In any season or type of weather conditions, Eagle Harbor is my favorite lighthouse. Thanks for the great photo, Neil.

Wow, what a beauty! Came home last night and was surprised to hear of the tornados in nearby Fenton. We drove through the driving rain (no pun intended) in the Grayling area. Cindy, you can take off your moose socks now. They only work for you! We drove down to the swamp near Covington 3 times, but did not see any moose!
By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 08:19 am:
They were terrifying storms around here last night. A line of tornadoes north of motown, and one to the south. Fenton/Howell was very badly hit.
Here in Commerce Township we had ferocious storms, but no tornado, no severe damage and no loss of power.
At least, as of last night, there was no loss of life.

Beautiful Picture! Had a puzzle made of one of our pictures we had taken of this lighthouse, and every time we put it together, we remember the great times we had in UP. And plan to have.

That is a really cool view, another great Neil Harri photo. I'm curious, does Eagle Harbor still have a functioning fog horn?
By Tim Holland (Tholland) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 10:36 am:
I am glad Neil wasn't trying to land in that kind of fog.
By Donald Kilpela (Commodore) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 10:51 am:
No more fog horn at the Eagle Harbor light.
By Therese (Therese) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 11:28 am:
Definitely a WOW, and a candidate for next year's calendar. Thank you, Neil, for a bit of peace.
By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 11:51 am:
Though not my favorite Lake Superior lighthouse, this one is magnificent in the fog. I like a couple others better, but never have seen them in this glorious state.
By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 01:37 pm:
Boy Therese, I'm with you. What a great idea for the new calendar. This is one of my favorite shots all year. But then, I love the Eagle Harbor lighthouse. Of course, I love most lighthouses. lol

Good afternoon from Mishawaka, IN. This is a WOW for sure. When we were UP in July we spent the night in Eagle Harbor. What a great time we had there. Besides visiting the lighthouse and watching the sunset, we had a helicopter land at the motel/resturant. The guys in it came in for dinner. I have this lighthouse on my list of visit again.
By Karen D Powers (Kareninoshkosh) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 04:01 pm:
So THAT was what the helicopter was doing last month! We were in a cottage diagonally from the playground, and when I heard the copter I went to the window to see what was going on. I couldn't tell, but I heard and saw it leave, too. I didn't know WHAT was going on, but thought it might have been a medical evac. Glad to hear it was just folks anxious to eat at the Eagle Harbor Inn. Mystery solved!!
By Cindy, New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 04:07 pm:
Marsha, I'm sorry that you didn't see a moose on your trip. I've been wondering all week if you were going to have good luck. I'd be happy to loan you mine next time. :)
By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 08:34 pm:
Marsha, I meant the socks, but you know I would be happy to share the mooses with you, too.

Did anyone hear of a young Laurium woman who died in a one car accident near Lake Medora Thurs. morning? Susan Harri, age 21. I'm just wondering if she was related to E. Neil Harri, our pilot/photographer. Prayers for that family.
By NKR (Nkr) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 09:55 pm:
Good evening from Mishawaka IN. What an awesome picture, but then most of E. Neil Harri's pictures are awesome.
By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Saturday, August 25, 2007 - 10:14 pm:
Kenjamimi, I did see write ups about her accident on both WLUCTV6 and on the Daily Mining Gazette's web site. I, too, was wondering if she were related to Neil Harri, and hoping that she is not. My prayers for her family, as well.
Does anyone know the answer of a possible relationship? Many thanks.

Your awesome picture today seems like a great tribute to both your great niece and your whole family at this sad time, with the beautiful light in the fog! Thank you for all of your wonderful pictures!
