There are a number of falls here in the Keweenaw to visit, some easily accessible, some not. One that many folks just pass by is the Canyon Falls outside of L'Anse. Not Pete Rytkonen and company though. They made the stop at the roadside park that leads to the beauty of these falls. That's Melanie, Shania and Tyler in both shots, posing on the rocky ledges of the falls, then perched above the actual water, as they take a quick camera break on the trail. This is a fairly easy falls to access, located on US-41, then a short walk along the Sturgeon River, will provide you with some spectacular views of what has been referred to as "The Grand Canyon" of the U.P.

Canyon Falls is especially beautiful in the fall! No pun intended, although people do dive there. I seem to remember Nate Alwine whitewater rafting there on pasty cam. Wasn't there a video? I couldn't find it.

The big Canyon Falls (see Mary's link) are really gorgeous in the spring. Might I say that they are too inviting, at least for crazy college students in the spring? (From the mom of one who took a break from studying for exams a couple of years ago in late April. He's ok, but he had a scare, and no, there were no rescue personnel involved.) A word to the wise: stay out of the water falls, at least in the spring, when the water is frigid and powerful from the snow melt.

FYI for all of you regulars, The good Capt. Paul and his Wife, the good doctor and our resident pasty cam geologist just left my office.
I thought I'd let you all know they arrived in the Keweenaw safe and sound and are enjoying not being in Houston ;-)

Now that you mention it... I think my Mom has some pictures where we look so sweet but right after the flash some gets punched.

I sure miss the waterfalls up there. In the spring when the water volume is on high from the meltoff, few things in nature sound better.
