A typical stretch of abandonded rail here in the U.P. from 8 years ago.

Pasty Cam was a little late publishing this morning, as I spent some time over at the old radar base resetting some routers which provide the broadband which keeps us connected here in Eagle River - and most populated areas of the Keweenaw.

abandoned rail? I don't think so - the rails are level and shiny, and the weeds are mostly under control.

Good morning from overcast and drizzly central Indiana. Rain needed very badly.

By Bob Jewell, Farmington Hills (Rjewell) on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 10:39 am:

Charlie,
Thank you for being late in publishing. As a late riser I didn't think I would ever have an opportunity to get an early bird.

It's curious to think, with rising gas prices, snow and rain, doesn't it make sense to get things to the UP by train??

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 10:45 am:

Yeah for Tuesday! If it's Tuesday, are we in Belgium?

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 11:35 am:

Taking the old railroad grades are excellent to see anything in the backwoods that you could almost imagine!
The one from Amasa to Lake Michigamme Reservoir is a great one to explore!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 02:56 pm:

Yucky rain today, I think it followed me from the UP. Had to go to the Secretary of state to renew everything and their drivers license thingy is down, have to go back tomorrow and I don't want to since once a year is enough.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 04:17 pm:

Brooke, send some rain up here to the thumb area. We only had a few brief showers so far. Really need rain in this area.

By Danbury (Danbury) on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 - 03:43 am:

We were touring the US when one evening me and my then-girlfriend drove back to the nearest town to get water, while my friend would put the tent up in the meantime. When we came back, the winds were blowing the tent all over the place - with him inside!
For additional chills, that was near the goosebends of the San Juan -e great place, but we decided to spend the night at Arches NP.
