The Pasty Cam visited a picnic at Bete Gris eight years ago today. Among the crowd was Josh Johnson (left) and Eric Bastian, who had the previous week taken home the first place trophy in his division of the Popeye Run.

Just make sure that my breakfast hotdog is from the open fire and not too burnt.

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 08:29 am:

Good Morning, just got back from the UP and we had rain quite a bit last week. Wish we had it here in SE Mi. First day back to work and I want to go home already.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 09:31 am:

Have a good trip UP there, Kosk. I hope the traffic is light and the weather's just right.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 10:01 am:

See some of you at the Aura Jamboree Saturday! I'll be there from noon on and can't wait to meet those of you who have told me you'll be there! I'll be stirring bean soup over the open kettle outdoors, so let's pray for "just right" weather. Here are some pics from a previous year. The new bean pot will not have the electric stirrer, so it'll be us and the wooden spoon. https://pasty.com/pcam/Aura-Jamboree-03

Hello to all,

I just came across a phenomenon when I was picking blueberries. I
have never seen a double blueberry before. Anyone else??

DoubleBlueberry

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 11:30 am:

Barb, I have never seen a double blueberry but one year I bought a box of strawberries and there was a huge berry in it. I know it was at least a double and possibly a triple. I remember that it covered the whole center of a saucer. It is interesting how this happens!

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 12:26 pm:

Thanks, Thumbgardener. Hoping to see you Marsha. I enjoyed the
slide show. Now back to laundry and packing.

Was on Mackinac Island last week.. first day back to work also..rough getting back into the swing of things... Actually only two nights on the island, thats all I could afford.

By Theresa R Brunk (Trb0013) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 06:35 pm:

I have seen many double blueberries. It happens when the blossom is also double and pollinated at the same time with one bee. I find the smaller ones are more sour, and that's just the way I like them. Some prefer berries sweet, but I love the sour taste, this includeds my candy :-)

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 07:55 pm:

Marsha wish I could be at your Jamboree with you. How did it happen to be bean soup in this time of the year? Courious. And Jacobville Barb, I like my blueberries any way. But the sweet ones really are great by the handsful on my Cherrios! Had them on sale last week and wish I could get lots more for the rest of the year. The best blueberries I picked myself up in the back country years ago by Grand Marais, Mi. Just had to keep a look out for bears. That made them all the more valuable to me. Never got back there again. Maybe some day.

Long way to go to Aura for a Jamboree, but some will go. I have to work, so oh well!!!!
That blueberry looks pretty neat! Blueberries are starting to look like they are ready! Ready for blueies on top of cereal and ice cream too!1

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 09:11 pm:

Kay: It's bean soup because my husband's late father always made bean soup for the gas engine shows around the state. So my husband followed suit!

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Monday, July 16, 2007 - 10:41 pm:

Marsha/Genesee, Mimi and I will be there at Aura on Saturday, too. I play banjo with Kilpela and Friends and Stan and Joan Baumel. We'll be playing for part of the dance Sat. night. Might even get some of your bean soup that day. :o)

Kosk, have a great trip!!!!!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 - 09:59 am:

It would be great to run gas engines on the by-products of bean soup.If only one could harness it with a safty valve.
