The Traprock River is a beautiful winding waterway near Lake Linden and is the host for this little falls, called fittingly enough, the Traprock River Falls. The location is at the Township Park on the river and in order to find this peaceful place, Robert Petersen headed north out of Lake Linden on the Traprock Valley Road, turning right at the Mayflower Rd./Copper City intersection, then driving about a mile and a half up the road. It looks kind of mystical in this photo with the smoky haze over the distant bend, then calm reflecting water that gets worked up as it cascades over the falls. It's not the first time this spot has appeared on these pages either, as it was a Shoebox Memory back in "August 2004". Other than a few more trees along the shoreline and no trees hung up going over the falls, it hasn't changed all that much since 1945.

Wow. I stumbled upon this site while looking for information on my grandfather, Henry Pichiotino, who came to Calumet with his family around 1902 from Pont Canavese, Italy. I also was delighted to see that Elmo Negro is still healthy and active; Elmo is my late father's cousin, and I had several Thanksgiving and Easter dinners at his home while I was a student at Michigan Tech University in the late 60s. I also remember "aunt" Pauline (Pichiotino) Steck. My sister Nancy has done a lot of research on family history and has several pictures of the original paisani in Calumet; I sent her this website, perhaps she can post some of them,

I've never seen this. Thanks Mary! What a way to end the week!

I grew up near this place in Traprock and used to catch brook and rainbow trout just below the falls. We called it Riverside park, though.

MEMORIES, MEMORIES...As a boy growing up in Hubbell we had many BOY RANGER picnics at this park on the Trap Rock River...If I recall this was right next to a small bridge over a dirt road and we would catch Suckers there. Thanks again for this great site.

It appears that the falls are the result of a "low-water" dam that was built to create a permanent pool of water.

never been there but it looks awesome.

for all you boatwatchers there is a tug and barge comin through the canal between now and 10:30 or so. it's the same ones that came through a few weeks ago i believe.

Its like a mirror above the Dam.

I remember Ryan and my other boy cousins going to Riverside park and trying to tube all the way back to Byykkonen's house. Of course I wasn't allowed because I was the only girl and my mom was sure those 5 or more boys would let me drown. I don't think they made it all the way in the tubes because of the shallow areas and trees that fell across the river, but I was sure jealous!!

My Hilden and Olson ancestors both had farms in Traprock. Thanks for such a great shot.
