Now tell the truth, how long has it been since you played around blowing bubbles? These youngsters were caught in the act by Al Covell recently doing just that, but in a large way. Looks like they're pretty good at it too, with long ones and doubles ones. Bubble blowing is a relaxing past time that gets you moving, too. Seems like a good way to spend the lazy days of summer here in the U.P.!

My granddaughter & I were blowing bubbles at my house Sunday - not this BIG, though. Wish we had been blowing bubbles UP there!

Sure looks like a good time.

I used to have the "recipe" for making the liquid to do that. Wish I could find it for my grandkids. May today be a big happy bubbly day for all.

These pictures remind me of the hot air produced by some folks high up on the Keweenaw. They know exactly who they are. Love them all.

Very nice pictures. If I remember right, the recipe for the giant bubble solution includes Dawn liquid dish soap. But the secret ingredient that allows the bubbles to get so big is a few drops of glycerin, something you can get from your pharmacist. My husband used to make those with our sons when they were younger.

We're packing to take my son to music camp today. We'll be home tomorrow afternoon, so I can try to check then if people are interesting in the giant bubble solution recipe. (It's easier for me to ride in the car reclined than it is to stay home & walk the dogs with this crazy fractured back.)

What a way to spend the afternoon. Blowing bubbles and letting your imagination fly.

Margaret I agree! Fun for young and old alike!!!
Good for the soul!

I just use dish soap & water for regular bubbles, never tried the big ones. I will admit I was not with my kids last time I was blowing bubbles.

Marianne, sorry to read that you have a fractured back. I broke mine 5 years ago and am still trying to recover. Pain never ends. I wish you luck.

Found this recipe online for Bubble fun.
BUBBLE BLOWING RECIPE
1. Combine 1/2 cup dishwashing detergent, 4 1/2 cups water, and 4 tablespoons of glycerin in a large container with a cover.
2. Mix well, then allow the mixture to rest, covered, until ready for use.
3. Pour bubble solution into a shallow container. Dip bubble wands -- such as cookie cutters, shaped pipe cleaners or wire -- into the solution and blow!
1. Joy is usually the recommended brand of dishwashing liquid.
2. For best results, use distilled water.
3. As an alternative to glycerin, some recipes recommend using white corn syrup.
I sure hope everyone has lots of fun.
God bless all

As our grandmother, Leona Yanesh ,from Gay, used to say everytime we blew bubbles, "Wouldn't it be neat if you could freeze those bubbles!" We miss her very much but think of her everytime we see those crystal clear beauties.

I LOVE bubbles!!! I can't wait to try that! LOL

Gretchen,
If you blow bubbles in the winter when the temps are at or below zero an make them by waving your arm with the bubble blower (rather than using warm breath) they will freeze before they burst and can roll across the snow and fracture there into the neatest eggshell like forms! My wife and the boys used to do this and I've watched the result. The bubble mixture will cool quickly at those temps to help out in the freezing, too. Have fun next winter, you can think cool about it in these hot days, too!

Richard,Thank you for the freezing tips! we will definitely try it next winter. Grandma would have loved it.
