Mikie I do so agree with you on the golden years I don't know if I would like to do it all over again but don't brag old age up to me. Chilly morning in Ohio but really hot weather ahead.

So true - and as we say in the funeral business, it's better to be seen than viewed.

While reading people's responses to whats up today and seeing all the mans and groans about "old age" I looked up some of the profiles. Most of you are just kids slightly grown up. I'm 75 for two more months. You don't know what aches and pains you have to look forward to. My advice--LIVE HARD- because you are going to get old and hurt anyway!! We are told to look forward which is depressing in itself, because you know what is just around the corner, so I enjoy looking backward to when life was more fun than we realized. Man, if I could live it over again my ears would still be ringing. Use it all up, you arem\n't going to take any with you. (Would take some typing lessons, too.)

Richard, I agree about liveing to the utmost, have tried but since the accident I am just crabby about everything. Can't wait to get on with life and not have to stay in the house. Just cut a hole in the seat of a chair to put a plant and pot in. Bought one of those Roto/Zip machines just like cutting butter with it. I miss going to my shop and doing things. My little friend next door Nathan told me when he gets older his dad will give him the keys to the 1965 Porshe and he will take me for a ride to the Dairy Queen. Hope I can make it another twelve years and he still has the car. Told me he will take his friend everywhere with him. He enjoys building things in my shop with me while his mother stands outside not wanting to get sawdust on her self. Nathan is four.

Fifty is the old age of youth- AND 50 is the youth of old age.

Greta...our daughter's father-in-law is a funeral director/funeral home owner, she assists him with the embalmings, body calls, autopsies, and such, their saying is, "it's better to be above the dirt, rather than under the dirt".

Greta, I have answered people the last few years when they said to me, "Good to see you!", with "Good to be seen!". I really like your "Its better to be seen then viewed!" I haven't heard that before.
Richard, I am about a year behind you and I truly believe that the little verse that Edward and Delores posted has a lot to do with our outlook. Thanks for shareing it. I just attended an 65th wedding anniversary open house this afternoon for friends of ours. They have always been people who were smiling and enjoying their life no matter the circumstances it brought them. Onward and upward! Enjoy!

Mikie, glad you are getting around better. How is Precious doing?

My Dad says you are as old as you feel (he is a 10 year old trapped in a 59 year old body). Both my grandmothers are always out and about and are never home when I call, most of their friends are younger than them and not nearly as healthy. Its most important to stay active I think.

Well I'll tell ya what Mikie, if we lived closer to you I'd give ya a ride in the car you protected the little bird stickers for........

Another old one is: Any day above ground is a good one! Amen? Keep on dancing, you don't get old because you dance. You get old when you QUIT dancing. Or something to that effect. Or if you don't use it, you'll lose it. I banged chords outa that banjo yesterday for 5 1/2 hours! 'Course, not 5 1/2 hours straight. That stage was like a sauna with the sun so HOT! Those kids sure sang up a storm and did the ethnic dances so nicely.

Pennie that may be my problem no Comet Burgers in over a month. I have been eating a diabetic menu, not very interesting, but my sugar is running close to perfect. Justin brought over Big Macs for lunch and I have had chest pains ever since.

At 69, my wife & co-pilot Syl (65) today completed the fourth of 5 USFWS Federal Bird Survey Routes we do every summer. 3 up in the NLP & 2 downstate here. 50 stops every 1/2 mile opening & closing the big Crown Vic. door, unsnapping and snapping the seat belt each time. Start at 5:22 AM prompt, finish about 11AM Talk about tired! We just keep on doing things like this though (even though I admit I do have many regrets!)
They have one route up in Crystal Falls they want me to do but just can't handle the gasoline expense--otherwise I'd be all for it! The one we do in the Huron Nat'l Forest we camp at a Forest Campground that is near the start point.
Which comes to mind ---how many know the DNR recently discontinued the Senior camping discounts at Forest Campgrounds! HUMBUG!
It's now $20 a night (most campgrounds) young or old, single car or huge camper!

SO---As I said on the Cam Notes page---"Lets hear it for the saucy ladys!" 3 cheers!

Mikie Big Macs are not the same as a Cosmic burger, that's the problem. It's all about the kind of grease they use. :)

My motto is Fit By Fifty! I have six months to get there and then I'm going to throw myself a great big birthday party with lots of dancing.
