By Theresa R Brunk (Trb0013) on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 - 06:53 am:

Good Morning. I have never sailed Lake Superior, but I have canoed and power boated there. The last time I was on a sailboat on the Great Lakes it when I was 6 and it was Lake Michigan. In 1991 I was on Lake Superior outside of Copper Harbor far from shore in a canoe with my Weimaraner when he decided to stand up and walk towards me tipping the canoe and nearly drowned me. Someone on the rocky shore yelled to me did I need help and my dog instantly turned his head to the voice and swam to the shore, saving me from my own pet. I never was able to thank that person as he was gone by the time I reached the shore hanging on to my capsized canoe. My Mother said it was an Angel, but I know it was a blessed person in the closet place to heaven on Earth. I will thank him here. Thank you for the last 17 years of my life. Now that I am living in Florida I sail and canoe the Inter Coastal Regions only.

Good morning! It's really going to be hot here in central MN. all week. Finally we have summer.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 - 07:09 am:

Theresa, what a story. You were truly blessed.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 - 07:15 am:

Theresa that really is a great story! How lucky you are. I believe in angels!

By Theresa R Brunk (Trb0013) on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 - 07:20 am:

I forgot to say that my dog was trying to get me to cradle him in my arms like I would do when we were in the water together so his feet would touch bottom. I survived but I was scratched from head to toe with his long claws as he tried to push me under. Just thinking about this has started me crying, and I must get to work. No one wants a weepy Plumber.

Good Morning, Y'all. It's going to be hot (86) and humid here in mid-Michigan today! I hope you all have a good day!

Congratulations, Paulwebbtroll, on your Early Bird! You almost made it yesterday. You must be an early riser.

Mikie, you're up early this morning--I hope it's not because you and Precious had a bad night!

Theresa, that's a really scary story! We all were lifejackets whenever we are on our boat, even though they are just required to be on board, not worn at all times. The Coast Guard Auxilliary recommends that both the people and their dogs should always have their lifejackets on when boating. I don't think that doggie lifejackets were quite as popular in 1991 as they are now, so you might have had a harder time finding one then. When we went to Boaters World in Saginaw last month, they actually had a lot more doggie lifejackets than adult smalls (which is what 2 of my sons wear now) !

Anyway, I'm glad that someone helped you out by getting your dog away from you! My small dogs wear their lifejackets if they are in the boat, but they hate the water, so they have scratched me, too.

Sorry--my last line should have read:
..."but they hate being in the water, so they might have scratched me, too."

I guess that I haven't had enough tea yet this morning! :-)

(Sigh) You folks with all your stories about boating gets me 'cuz my dream has always been to sail sometime, just me alone and whover does sailing for tourists. I've been on many ferry boats, even a memorable trip in Ireland in the Aran bay and stopping at each island for cargo or passengers. But to actually sail, listening to the wind in the sails...(sigh)! Georg e's boat is like a dream to me. Happy sailing from some one surrounded gy cornfields.

In light of recent discussions here on the low levels of Lake Superior & the problems these low levels are causing, I thought that you all might be interested in the following article that I found this noon on Detroit News Online on the subject:

Hello all. Last day of school today, my son is hanging out with his best buddy while I'm at work. Then off to his dads, think I'll take on some closets!

By Elizabeth Hepinstall (Elizabeth) on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 - 05:37 pm:

My dear brother, Mike, was killed in the accident on the Seney Stretch on June 3. I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. A special thank you to the Harsants who arrived on the scene, Terry, a volunteer fire fighter from the towing service, all the EMS and police, and Sgt. Gretchen Voltz. Please keep Jessica in your prayers, also. It was a miracle she survived. Try to avoid this stretch if possible or at least stay very alert, so your friends and loved ones have to suffer through such a tragic, horrific loss. My condolences to the Bishop's family also, but please remember we are all precious in God's sight, no matter what our title or occupation. The world has lost one of its kindest, caring persons that ever lived. My brother, after 58 years, had finally met his soulmate and was to be married. I thank God for that and all the memories I will cherish forever.
